My dog + hotel room by stairs = fun pics (fixed...pic heavy) (9 replies)

Hmmm...wouldn't let me write in the text box before...aaaanyway I took a long trip with my dog and had to stop at a hotel for the night. They kindly put the young woman with the German Shepherd right in front of the stairs on the third floor. These pics kind of tell a story...of DANGER.
Also, I realize the choke chain is ridiculous. Grabbed the first thing I found on the floorboard in the dark at 12 am.
Watching TV, relaxing...

Suspicious people noises...

Investigating...

Alert...

This is where I said, "What're you doin? relax!" and he said something close to, "I'M WORKING, QUIET."

Back to work...

All clear!

Silly dawg.

That's so funny. I love the order of events and you didn't even need the explanations, the pictures really are worth a thousand words. Don't you just love it when they're so protective?
Drake and I were on the road for six months and he was my guardian. As soon as we'd get to our room, he'd pick a bed and get up. He'd stay there while I got everything unloaded and set up. Then, once settled, we'd both eat and go for a walk. When we'd get back, I'd work on the computer for hours and he'd still be on "his" bed. When I'd start getting ready to go to sleep, he'd jump down and lay by the door, where he'd stay all night. He was always on high alert but never made too much of a fuss, just watched. Funny how, when you don't really have a routine, you fall into one anyway. He knew exactly what his job was, and he did it well. |

What a great dog, pat him on the head for me. That is what Asta would do. Always made sure the bumps in the night would not get mom.
Always,

I always tell people with a gsd: If you just watch your dog , it will tell you all you need to know..learn to read them...it may save your or someone elses life..or theirs!
I remember being told about a certain trainer, here in the USA, that he was the very ultimate for reading dogs, and that was why he was such a good, compatent trainer with the highest success of results on very hard dogs.

| The best trainer I have ever met has had a hearing impairment since he was a kid. He would tell me that all he has to do is watch his dog and he would tell him what is going on around him. He can read a dog like no one else. He has been training since 1979 and I swear he has learned so much from dog's senses that he is now part dog. He sees and smells things that others would miss. |

Thanks for the comments, everyone! These pics show exactly why I got this dog...he's a one woman dog and instinctively places himself between me and anything "suspicious". When we got to my parents' house the next day, he consistently placed himself between me and them for the first couple of hours. After that, he relaxed.
My parents were so confused by him because they have had Golden Retrievers for many years and didn't understand why he was completely uninterested in playing fetch with them but would happily bring things back for me.
