Looking for Good Breeder in Illinois (29 replies)
|
|
| Hey everyone.
I recently lost my 10 year old male, sable GSD suddenly to liver cancer.
My dog touched my heart and made me a better person for having known and loved him.
My husband trained him to a Sch1, but then we decided after that to let him be a family pet only.
We are now starting the look for a new puppy. We really want another male and are only interested in a working line dog. Obviously hips, title and KK are important.
We do want another dog with drive, as we are able to handle that and actually find a moderate to high drive preferable.
We are energetic ownwers who have the time to "work" the dog.
I've been blessed to have two GSD's in my life, one lived until 14, the other to 10. Both impacted my life more then I could have ever imagined. I cannot imagine my life without another GSD.
My house is too quiet and empty, just like my heart.
Any suggestions for the Illinois/Wisconsin area? |

| Try Triton kennels in IL. They are just now breeding two of their females and I highly recommend them. I've bought two dogs from Trish and Tony:)

| Actually, while I'm thinking of it, I'm in Michigan and have this male available: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/500049.html
His sire is the dog that Trish is using for her females, Xandor vom Haus Sevens IPO3, HD/A. The dam is Sch.1 and an Olex de Valsory daughter. I'll be going over to IL to pick up the stud dog pretty soon.
Alex was sold but returned to me because he was too much for them. |

| Like what I see on their website except for one thing. I really prefer to pick the puppy out of the litter rather then have the breeder choose for me.
I feel I have enough knowledge in temperment to make my own decision.
I'm sure they have lovely dogs, but I really prefer to pick one based on my assessment in conjuction with the breeder. |

| Ditto to above...also I would recommend Marcy Blank at Landschaft Kennel: http://user.mc.net/~frabo. I have 2 super dogs from her, both I titled to SchH3. She made suggestions (which I actually ended up agreeing with her) but let me choose my pups.

| Heartbroke,
I totally know what you are going through, as I'm still trying to deal with the loss of my girl. You have my total sympathy. I do however live in Michigan and am about a 3 hour drive from your location, and I have 2 gorgeous females that are 6 months old. I would like to know what you are looking for and expecting in a puppy. If you would like to email me so I can talk some more and send pictures you may. Just click on my name here, and it will give you my email. You can also check out our website, but our designers have been rather lazy and have not updated our site. www.boeselagerkennels.com needless to say they will not be with us anymore. |

| While I have never purchased a dog from them, I have wondeful experience with Dave and Kathy Blank, very ethical people, I recommend them frequently, along with Steve Beal, who I think is a great helper and has really nice dogs. I have a lot of respect for local breeders who title themselves.
I have personally trained a few dogs bred by Landschaft kennels, they are very confident, VERY drivey dogs, in my opinion quite suitable for experienced handlers. The ones I have worked with have been fast to learn and very high energy.
If you are interested in a showline dog, I have also had good experiences with Nina Heinz of Vollmond Shepherds, she is very professional. I'm currently working with a female out her Karo that has remarkable work ethic and I trained a male pup from I believe Tracy van de Herdersfarm that was unbelievably confident, in fact, I dont recall ever seeing a pup as young as he was handle pressure so well.

Anyone know anything about Dean Calderon's dogs?

| Dean and Karla sell high drive sport dogs. I know you say that is what you're looking for. If you are, you're in for a treat. There dogs are pretty darn good looking dogs also. Contact them; they'll spend the time to talk to you. |

Who are the dogs? Did they compete at the Sieger Show? Always curious who has good working showlines - if they are out there, give us some info. |

Steve & Connie Miller or Steven Beal is the way to go in WI. I have a dog that I bought through them and have also used a dog of Steve Millers for stud. They have NICE dogs and are honest people. |

of all the kennels peopel mentioned, I would try Steve Beal or Landschaft. THE most important thing is that you communicate exactly what you want and need. how much support will you want from the breeder? How do they train and how will you train? Where are you going to train? Who do those people have dogs from? Please try to do much more research than this forum before you buy..... Ask them questions, look at the USA or WDA or AWDF sites and see what breeders are associated with them. Repeat breedings? what is the first litter doing? If the breeder is also doing Schutzhund what is the club like and go watch their training. If the club members are not nice or training is not your style......
My current dogs are 9 yo and back yard bred
6 yo BH from SteingTal (WI) dying from cancer
2 yo from Eichenluft in PA
My girl from Steinigtal is fabulous! It is her pedigree that made her what she is, not what kennel she came from. I would get another dog from them, if I knew the pedigree...i don't train the same as or with them.
i am so sorry for your loss. I have had two months of knowing that there was nothing I could do, but knowing she is dying.... we tried chemo and it was not a god thing for her at all....
Best Wishes,
Darcy |

I have had several dogs from Landschaft kennels in Marengo and have been very pleased with them and their dogs. After Marcy and Craig know what you would like the dog for they will let you choose if there are more than one suitable for your needs, available at that time. I know a lot of people who have dogs from this kennel and have titled to sch3 and/or working on it now. |

As far as breeders go, my only recommendation is for Marcy Blank and Craig Eugene of Landschaft Kennels. In my opinion (and I have been in the sport for over 20 years) Marcy is a pedigree expert who has the knowledge and innate ability to match the best working dogs and bloodlines to create phenomenal puppies. She is ethical, listens to your input, and will help you pick a puppy based on your needs and what you hope to do with the dog in life. Her puppies have gone on to work in ALL walks of life from pets to Search & Rescue, from police/narcotic dogs to National Competitors in Schutzhund. She has been breeding dogs for a long time and has a sense for finding popular working bloodlines before they become popular and desired. She guarantees her puppies and stands behind her contract.
I have purchased dogs for myself from Marcy, dogs for police departments, and dogs for my closest friends. You won't be disappointed if you choose to get your puppy from her! I wouldn't go anywhere else.

wow, this thread started almost a year ago. i wonder if heartbroken ever did find a new dog? anyway i'll put in my 2 cents two. steve and connie miller were great when i bought spunky aka zippy vom haus miller from them. i told them what i wanted and steve advised me that showlines would suit my needs better. when i went to look at the two available females, connie told me the red collar was better about being handled and it just so happened she was the one my boyfriend fell in love with too, so it was a perfect match for our family. i will buy from them again someday since they were willing to work with me on getting the pup of my dreams. they have workinglines too but that would have been a bit much for our family. |

If you are looking for a reputable breeder with really nice working lines in Illinois, you should talk with USA judge / AWDF president - Al Govednik ( algovfh@yahoo.com ). I know that he is about to have his third repeat breeding with his own dogs Hex/Lea both SchH3. I have a pup from the last litter and couldn't be happier! |
