| At the risk of sounding like a commercial....
I started my dogs on Peak Glow Coat about 6 weeks ago..I have NEVER gotten such excellent results from ANY product I have ever tried! Their coats are glossy, velvety soft and it is rare to get hair out of them even when you pet them in the wrong direction! Shedding is nil. It is WONDERFUL stuff, a powder the dogs don't mind the taste of and very reasonably priced. Flax seed is the main ingredient...it can be ordered online at www.k9power.com |

| Brush the coat 2 times a week, put some olive oil on the food. One hour before the show spread water with 10% of almond oil on the coat. It will be shining!
I am also interested in the experience of other people. |

| Fats in the diet make a nice glossy coat. Proteins make good healthy hair--hair is made from protein, but is the lowest priority for the body, so if a dog's diet is lacking protein the hair looks bad. |

| The most important thing is not supplements, it is to feed your dog the best diet possible - either kibble or raw - whatever it is needs to be complete, good-quality, and find foods that are high in meat content and low on grain - no corn or wheat. Make sure the dog is on the best diet possible, this will make the most difference in coat condition. Supplements should only complement - no supplement is going to create a great shiny coat on a dog that isn't getting the best nutrition.

| I feed my dogs nutro max... including Raw meats... such as raw pork necks (they love it!) Raw chicken necks including the gizzards from the chicken. Both of my dogs looks extremely healthy and i just love their beautiful coat. When I know i'm going to be doing some work with both of my dogs i give them the supplement of vertex :) |

| I also feed the raw diet (65% Raw Meaty Bones/30% Raw Meat Muscle/5% Organ Meat) and add to that 3 capsules of salmon oil, Vit E, Raw egg w/shell 1-2 times week, kelp and alfalfa, Vit C, and 1-2 Tbs. Veggie Mush (optional)every other day. The salmon oil is GREAT and the raw diet has really produced a wonderful coat w/minimal shedding. Leerburg sells a nice salmon oil product as does B-Natural. Even with a litter on the ground, I find the coat to be stunning. Good luck!
PS I have recently been told to avoid kelp while the bitch is pregnant as the increased iodine level can cause a chance for increased bleeding. |

Supplements in my opinion are okay i give Salmon Oil and Vit E daily. But good feeding and husbandry is the key to natural good health, If a Dog is healthy and fed correct then its coat will shine, Feed the blood and it will feed the body

I agree Steve! A great food should be all your dogs need. However, I have used Peak Glow Coat too, nice stuff. I feed Canidae now and one of my females looks great. The other has had terrible coat for weeks. I just had her thyroid tested yesterday, if it comes back normal, I may put her back on that supplement or look for another food. I am a fan of flaxseed oil in the winter when my dogs get a bit dry. Especially this year, it's been so bitter.
cherub- I have paranoia regarding kelp. One of my close friends sent a kelp supplement she was gving her yorkie to a relative that does toxin testing and he found traces of strichnine (sp?) in it! She took him off immediately and won't touch anything with kelp in it. It was enough to spook me, too.
soothersmaylive- Have you any experience with the Peak Grow or Peak Stride? I haven't tried them, but I'm considering the Stride for one of my dogs that has a hip problem. |

Agree with the others that a good diet is pretty much all that is required. However we have always given cod liver oil as a daily supplement for its all round abilitiy in having a positive effect on joints, bones, skin, hair etc. It is also very cheap if bought in larger quantities as packaged for horses.
I also think that allowing the coat to be a coat by giving lots of fresh air in all weathers, especially rain, wind & cold, can also have a great effect on the coat. They just ain't built for slobbing around in a centrally heated house!

My Xip is very shiny too, minimal shedding. Even her vet commented on the lack of hair all over the exam room on her last visit, and on how great she looks. So I'll toss my vote in to, for raw fed, with raw eggs, salmon oil. No other coat suppliments.
