Our 7 yr old male GSD has a wonderful temperament.  He loves most people except those who pose a direct threat.  He is clear headed and a joy to have around.  He is mostly fearless and courageous.  He has travelled in cars, on planes and boats without batting an eye.

Now to the problem.  It is SO wierd.  My husband and I have separate offices in our house.  In my office, nothing bothers the dog.. ., not even my Canon printer.  My husband has an Epson printer/scanner and it drives the dog crazy.  When it is turned on, I have to get the dog and keep him out of the H's office.  The dog does not growl, he cries.  He acts as if his best friend is being murdered before his very eyes (or ears).  I am sure it has something to do with the sound, but it is completely freaky.  I actually feel sorry for him as he seems in such distress.

Has anyone got a dog that reacts in this manner to a printer?  Or other electronic equipment?

I had to get rid of my Epson, I now have a cannon and Hp. The Gsd's would scream and the rottie would howl, he howled so loud the windows shook. He howls with the serins, but does not shake the windows. When my husband was on one of tirades I use to turn it on, they out did him! There are times when I miss it, could get pretty funny. I even used them to get rid of solictors one day, my office is in the front of the house and I saw them walk up, when the dogs started they left. Glad to know I am not the only one that experianced this. When it finally dawned on me (I am a little slow) that it is bothering the ears, I got rid of it.
One GSD can not take the tv when it scratches, I am not sure how to explain it. She is a total nut case at that point. They would rather do fireworks than the Epson, or scratchy TV.

I would bet that there is a noise, a hum, at a pitch that you cannot hear and it bothers the dog. Leave the printer off except when printing, or get a different setup and print from both computers to the other printer.

It's an epson.  No screaming or howling though, just very interested in it.

I agree with Hodie. I have an Epson and none of my dogs has ever reascted to it. But, I recall when I was a kid, my gsd reacted angrily to people walking by with certain radios or radio stations playing. There was clearly some frequency or sound that set her off.

OMG,   I think there could be something to this Epson thing.  I had one, a few years back, one of their Photo ink jet printer models, and my dog would always react and bark when it printed!  My new HP doesn't get any reaction.

Never considered it would be a freak phenomenon with dogs. But I'm a believer.
