With so many sick animals coming to a practice everyday, would a practice ever be clean?

I was at a practice few months back with a import that had contracted corona, sadly this dog died. While been treated there was a boxer puppy that had come for his vaccinations. Sadly this dog also contracted the virus few days after seeing him at the practice.

Would it be wise to take puppies for vaccinations to a practice and what kind of protocol should veterinarians have for cleanliness.

My vet has a completely seperate area for well dogs and puppies that are coming in for vaccines only.  He also did pregnantcy checkup from the back of my SUV, first appt, straight from his house.

Last year, Sita was only 14 weeks and my husband and I were called away, my vet was the only one that would board her. He has a cat rescue in an office 2 doors down, so he put her up in the cat room. He required the help to disinfect themselves before going into the cat room and all went well, and Sita didn't catch anything. She was very up set, so they put a dog save cat into the cage with her until she got used to being alone.

I have been taking my animals (dogs & cats) to the same vet for aprox. 17 years.  If I walk into a vet and smell that dirty smell (you know what I"m talking about) then I will not bring my animals there.  Also,  id if you have an animal with a name that is spelled weird but you tell them how it should be and have been going for a while, they should get your dogs name right!  After the 3rd time you mispronounce my dog, I'm outta there.  I love the vet I have had for the last 17+ years!  She sees all my animals.

(Pssst! It's spelled VETERINARY!)

I took my new pup in for her booster shots last week. The vet has an old rubber bathmat on the exam table to keep the animals from slipping. I looked at it, and couldn't help but wonder how clean it was...

Rubber mats sure can trap germs and virus and difficult to disinfect.

There should be some guideline?

The exam rooms should be washed down between animals, Nolvasan or Wex-cide, healthy come thru the front door, at noon the waiting room is washed down. Sick animals have their own entrance, washed down between animals.  There is an isolation room for the parvo's ect.
Always,
Cee

I am so lucky with my wonderful Veterinarian, she is incredible. Her practice is out of an old home that she bought in town and cleans the waiting room & exam rooms between animals, has two different entrances for animals in case one is contagious or in heat, is so reasonable about prices and will come out and do house calls.  I am so spoiled with her, she is also a professor at the local university's veterinary program so she is always teaching me how to do things myself.  She is brutally honest and isn't afraid to say what is on her mind (she has asked me if I had my head somewhere other then my shoulders in my early years as a dog owner ).  She has practiced over 35 years and will help with the tough decisions by offering her experiences.  My vet will never be rich but she is deeply appreciated by all of her clients and their animals

She does both large and small, works with many professional breeders and has bred and trained Champion dogs of her own for 20 years and received recognition for her ethical breeding practices.
