I am sorry to hear she had to have surgery, did she cut herself?
Always,

Also, if you got to a hunting/bait type shop, they usually have vinyl shoes for hunting dogs (the ground is really spiky where crops have been cut down).
Poor girl, hope the foot heals quickly. |

She has decided that the 6 foot kennel fence is easier to climb then the 7 foot vertical wall she trains on. she caught her right large pad Friday nite in the twisted wire top and almost took the large center pad completly off. Now her kennel has a roof and all the twisted tops are ground off.
She is really in a foul mood being day caged for 2 weeks with a elizabethen collar on when I,m not home.
thanks for the well wish,s. |

You own a Body Shop and your asking us?
Sand the pad down with 80, then 220, then 400 between primes, thats after you use Bondo. Mask her, throw a car cover on her, a couple of coats of base coat then use the clear coat. Wet sand and buff it in the morning. Then put a latex glove on her paw and have at it. You might want to try some undercoating or chip guard.
Good luck Bob hope she heels fast and I hope I made you laugh! |

I've tried all types of dogie footwear for my poor old Aussie. She is, and always has been a "carpet dog" even though her heart's willing, she has never been able to do many of the outdoor things that the rest of her family does. Being starved to the brink of death as a weeks old puppy by a puppy mill.......that's another story......
My advice, if feel that the boot will be one for just a few hours a day, only during the few weeks of recovery and mainly on soft surfaces (grass, soft dirt, forest litter) then buy a set of the cheapest you can find. Since your dog will be wearing the boot on only 1 foot, if after a week it wears out you still have 3 left, and that's a month of recovery time.
If your dog's recovery is more long term then decide on a boot with the proper gripping surface for the activities you wish to participate. Cheap boots can be found at Petsmart or Petco.....REI has some that are more heavy duty - ruff wear - I think. Boots come for all sorts of applications, there are even boots for rock climbing dogs.........most likely don't need to go there.. ..
Wish you God's speed in your best friend's recovery!

I have never used these but I saw them in one of my "pet" mags and they sound like it might be the kind of thing just to keep her foot clean and dry. Here is the link pawzdogboots.com/
Good luck, I hope she heals quickly |

Bob-
This site has a really great pair of boots: www.things4yourdog.com Ultimate Dog Boot
Look under the search and rescue dog gear link on the sidebar. These are easy to put on, and they don't slip down the leg.

I tried the ultimate dog boot, Mattie had trouble getting used the them, I think because they were so long. Plus in Texas they were just too hot for her on a hike. She high stepped the whole time she wore them and when she walked through a stream they flooded......best for snowy weather......The positive is they are very visible and its easy to see if on is thrown. Unlike smaller black boots.
We've gone through about a 9 different pairs of boots in her life...
It could work on one foot during convalescents.
There are positives and negatives on all of them. |

Contact a sled dog equipment manufacturer. The have a nice soft bootie that works well, you can either get fleece or nylon. when Barbie injured her foot we used a bandage (whole pad missing), vet wrap, and a sock taped at the top. when she had to go outside and it was damp we put the nylon bootie over the top. When we had to re-certify narc at the coast in the rain we added a layer of platic wrap and as soon as she was finished we removed it and changed dressings.
if a more durable long term boot is needed I highly recommend the grip trex boot by ruff wear. you can get better prices on ebay. I like them for the stickers around here, we have a nasty one called a goat head that grows in a very large mat. Nothing like watching the disappointed expression of the driver who has drugs in their car when they see Barbie in her boots. They pretty much protectect against everything, stickers, glass, sharp rocks.

| This is also not a bad idea for winter walking on streets. The salt causes pain and I've tried other footwear that I purchased at Gander Mountain. I bought the biggest ones I could find but they still are too small and keep slipping off. I may look into some of those suggested here, thanks! |
