| No never ever Advil or Ibuprofin in any way shape or form. I have used aspirin on occassion with my vet's ok but only sparingly and with food. A good easy massage will do wonders for the dog. |

You may be walking him too far or too long, or he may have a mild case of pano. Just going for a walk should not make a healthy young dog sore. You may want to look into some stretching exercises for him, they are easy enough to find online.
To be honest, I don't like to give dogs anything for pain unless I absolutely must. Pain is the body's way of saying "slow down" and I really feel the dog needs to know when they're hurting so they don't overdo it.

| My late boy Bruno had arthritis of the spine in his old age and the vet recommended Tramadol (it's also a med that humans take for pain) for his pain- it worked really well with no side effects. Of course if the enteric coated aspirin works, I'd use that. As biljenbec mentioned, it would probably be a good idea to give him a daily glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate supplement. I gave that to Bruno as well. They have a formula for dogs, but the name totally escapes me right now- I think it's called "Synovi-Chews", but not 100% sure. NEVER give your dog Tylenol, ADvil (Ibufrofen) or Aleve (Naprosen) as they can be toxic to animals. |

my 10 year old is on 1/4 tsp smart flex repair and 4 "E" caps every day
1/2 a baby asprin every other day when necessary.
My vet told me asprin thins the blood so too much (especially in dogs) so use it sparingly. if the pain gets too bad, the vet has stronger stuff that will help. |

Ester C built up over time will help reduce inflammation. Ascriptin(coated aspirin) is what I would use before any ansaids.
I have heard that fish/salmon oil can add to the joint problems rather than helping in a senior w/ arthritis. Gluco/Chrondroitin and EsterC combo are a great preventative. |

Never Advil, Ibuprofen or acetominophen.. I'd say some xrays are in order to see what you are dealing with and go from there....
Aspirin may not be enough... he could have arthritis, spondylosis., any number of things could occur in a 9 year old..... there are a lot of products that help pain....
NSAIDS can be very effectve, Adequan is great for dogs who have trouble with the NSAIDS.. Tramadol is just a pain killer, does nothing to reduce inflammation.... fish oil and antioxidants sahould help not hurt per one of my vets
Acupuncture and some chinese herbs are also beneficial for certain conditions but first you need some diagnostics not speculation
And try different exercise, reduce weight if necessary...... swimming is great for any age or pretty much any condition.. you can see it in the face of a dog who has trouble on land, just how great he feels in the water
Good luck |

He could also just have sore muscles. Wonder if he'd be willing to sit in a jacuzzi or tub of warm water for 15 minutes, getting a back and leg massage? That can do more wonders than pain meds alone.
Acetominaphin has been strongly DIScouraged by the FDA even for humans. The dosages in most OTC drugs like Tylenol are so high, that long term use has been proven to cause liver damage.
DO NOT WANT!!!

| I can only echo the warnings from the others: absolutely NO Tylenol, Ibubrofen, or other pain/anti-inflammatories. Aspirin only for dogs.
There are prescription products often used for dogs like Rimadyl, but they have their own issues.
Try the low-dose aspirin (which is how Bayer now markets what used to be just baby aspirin). Also, try a little massage and warm up before the long walks. |
