Help finding Police/Military Quality K-9's? (9 replies)

Looking at getting a K-9 for Police Work. I want a GSD because I have been working with them and witnessed their potential. I have worked 2 dogs in Schutzhund as a handler, 1 dog in detection (Passive Alert) as a handler, several dogs in Police apprehension as a helper, and have been a Schutzhund club helper. I have work various breeds as a helper and like the GSD's temperment more than any other working breed. I feel like I'm more prepared than most wanting to be a handler and would like to find a dog for my department in hoping that I can get the next K-9 spot that comes open. The dog will be handler owned.
I want a real hard dog that I can train to be a Dual Purpose Police K-9. I like the worklines but some are not as tough as I feel they need to be as Police K-9.
I have been looking at some Czech lines cause all the good dogs in my area that work for the police departments are all Czech lines. Not sure what Czech lines they are though and would like to know what Czech lines are producing Police/Military quality dogs. But if you know of other lines that are producing the same quality please inform me.
I don't care wether the dog will be male or female but rather just looking for a K-9 who will have high drives needed for police work. I have seen both sexes in different departments and as long as the drives were there the size really didn't matter.
I want a dog that has high drives but also a good temperment. I don't want a dog that will bite everyone he/she see's. I want one who will bite and stay in the fight until commanded but can realize when the threat is no longer there and can be trusted (to some extent) around people. The questions I have, in order to get pointed in the right direction, is:
Who is producing hard GSD's for PoliceMilitary work?
What lines are the GSD's?
The reason you would choose the breeder for producing Police/Military Dogs? (Specific as possible please)
What makes these lines Police/Military quality?

Where are you located? Are you looking for an adult or a puppy? I have a real nice Czech GSD as my K9, but they can be hard to find. Check out Cobra Canine in Virginina Beach. They import dogs from Europe and I just evaluated several dogs for a PD. We chose a really nice mali and he's going to be a super police dog. Betweeen my PD and a neighboring cities PD we.ve bought 3 dogs from Cobra in the past year. Every dog is excellent, 1 GSD, I mali and 1 Dutch Shepherd.

I am located in Utah. I am not looking to get a dog until next year. Just trying to get as much information as possible on those who are breeding the type of dogs I am looking for. I don't want to end up with crap or a dog with health problems. Just looking for help and doing some research on this board from people who is knowledgeable.
Don't mind if it is a puppy or a young dog. Just don't want a dog that is to much over 2 years, I prefer one that is around 15 months or younger by the time I purchased the dog. It can be a green dog or one with some training started.
Anyone else who knows who is breeding or briging the type of dog I am after please help. I would like several places to look at and research before deciding the place I will get the dog from.

Check out this site. They will find a green dog for you or import a puppy. They use Czech and Slovakia lines...these sound like the kind of dogs you're looking for.
