My non GSD bitch had a pseudo pregnancy. I was just curious how common this is.

Yes false preg is common, try not to rub the breast area as this stimulate more milk production. Some dogs have alot of nesting issues during this time, can be a pain. My Astra was like that until I spayed her. I would come home and she would have all the blankets and sheets off the bed and into a closet. You could only see her nose.

I'm curious...does this happen only to females that have had a previous litter or can it happen to one that has never been bred? Just wondering if there is a relationship to having raised a litter or can it be just instinct to want a litter. |

Hi Sue,
This can happen to any female that has not been spayed. It does not matter if they have had a litter or have been bred before and not taken. Even a female after her first heat can have a false preg. It all has to do with hormones.

This was my girl's first heat. In fact we never noticed that she had come in.

my female had a false pregancy, before she ever was pregant.
she has not had another one , she has had pups twice.
it can happen on any cycle, and age. |
