I had 1) many complaints about not finding links to do stuff and 2) cries of help from new users where to do stuff

I decided to make a single box with all the items a logged in user can do.  Hope it helps,  it will probably make it easier for new users to get used to the website.

ps. I will be making this message board a cross breed board and adding a new (empty) for GSD related issues.  this is only becuase of a design flaw of mine:

I created a multi breed messageboard for al other breeds and excluded the GSD because this board existed,   I can easily remove the exclusion of the GSD and have GSD's as a normal member as other breeds.   The data container for this ( the original ) messageboard stands alone .

So for each breed there will be 2 forums,  Cross-breed  (that is seen for every breed) and a breed-only that is local.

Regards
Oli

Do you mean posts that you (as a member) have recently replied to?

Thats actually ridiculously easy for me to implement,..

So are more in favor of me to put up a box (like recent pedigrees and such) that shows the last topics you have replied to?

Will we still access the GSD forum the same? Or just pick them as your breed?

I was thinking of posts (threads) that we started on the message board.......

I would also love to see a delete feature on the list so we could delete old pm's without having to open each on up. We could more easily delete them and give back server space....

Thank you very much for adding the spellchecker.

Who is on your avatar, he is magnificent!

Thank you Oli

Oli,

What a brilliant mind you have, I love all the improvements.    I do have a request since you are here.  I am still  stuck on Dial-up .  I live so far out in the middle of No man's Land.

I LIke to go through the classifieds, but it is very frustrating for me, because If I want to see the picture I have to click on the link, but it takes forever to load the picture and the whole new page.   If you could replace the " camera"  with a Thumbnail of the Picture that would be in the add.  It would make browsing easier, I would be able to get a glimpse of the dog, to see if it is show or work or pup.  Then, I could decide to open the page and wait for more information.

IF it is not possible, I still love the site !!

I did that for the classifieds,  now you can hover the mouse over the icon and you will download that image (you will only download images you decide to hover over).  no need to click ,  just hover.

No reason to show all the images when you can choose which to download

I want to say, the text display for the Message Search feature is great. I love that I can choose a topic just by a glimpse of the beginnings of each reply. I like to check threads that I have replied to as well, saves time especially if one occasionally "takes a few days off".

not to be off topic, but is there anything that can be done for cyber stalkers who come to this site and harass other members?  can IP address be blocked or something?

Uber land, I don't know if Oli will answer you on this, but others have asked it too. There are static and dynamic IP addresses depending on how you connect to the Internet. With a static address, it is always the same so can be blocked. With dynamic it is often different and if you block it, you can block innocent users too. For example, some jerk might be cruising around using unsecured wireless networks he picks up so his IP address is always different or he might use different cyber cafes, or he might even spoof IP addresses.

I'm not giving away any secrets here. Even kids know these things today.

So if I am reading this correctly, Oli implemented the General Topics section for topics relating to ALL BREEDS  of dogs.
In fact,  currently I see ELEVEN threads on the first page of this INTERNATIONAL FORUM that are not only NOT dog related, they are applicable only to that very obnoxious animal called American Politics.

I bump this thread with the hopes people will please come to their senses, stop abusing the freedoms Oli affords us on this board, maybe have some courtesy for the rest of the world, and go talk politics on a political message board, it doesn't belong here.  It's one thing to talk politics every now and again, but when you dominate the board with your endless new threads about local state and national politics, you are bumping the dog related threads.  People come here to talk about dogs, not your politics, and when they see the entire first page is nothing but your politics they just go away.  You really are wrecking the board for everyone else.   We have lost too many members who were valuable for their knowledge about dogs.  It's time to stop.

The individual breed sections are for topics that are breed specific, the general topics section is for topics applicable to all breeds.

I have noticed the ones that add the most to the OT posts add the least to the dog related posts.  You do have to wade through all of the OT stuff to get to the dog stuff.  Maybe Oli coudl add a section for non dog related topics.

Well, you must admit that there is just so much you can talk about regarding your dogs -- what they eat, how much they eat, they vomited, ears won't go up, went to a show, bash someone else's dog, gave them a bath, what shampoo did you use, and on and on.   I'm sure that it has ALL been discussed over and over again.  If you have a question and type it in the Search Box, all the topics related to it will come up.................and then the constant complaining by the same people regarding the Off Topic Threads........my, my

Why do those of you who only post to political threads  come to the Pedigree Data Base when you have no interest in discussing anything related to dogs?  Why do you come to this dog message board when you have nothing to contribute with regards to dogs?  Have you been kicked off all the political message boards or something?  I mean come on, this is PEDIGREE DATABASE MESSAGE BOARD.  What ever gave any of you the idea this forum was the place to share your political opinions?   I am honestly looking for a legitimate reason why anyone who wants to do NOTHING but talk politics thinks the logical answer is to come to a DOG message board?  You people have got to be kidding if you think anyone appreciates your constant blasting the board with this crap.

I don't believe this nonsense.  WHAT is so difficult about the concept of a DOG-related forum?   When you have exhausted all you think you  can learn or discuss ABOUT DOGS,  you can simply go to another type of forum.  If your primary interest is discussing American politics, there are plenty of political forums where that can be appropriately done.   Again, what is the problem with understanding the basic concept?

Actually, I haven't seen much of anything interesting to discuss as it relates to dogs.   Maybe all the good topics are on the Breed Specific Side, as they sure aren't on this side of the Forum.   Actually, you can just "cut and paste" your answers -- you have repeated yourselves so many times on the same topics.   I can ask myself, "Why Am I on This Forum" but I also wonder "Why You Are On This Forum."   But, then I know that some of you are "waiting" like a snake for some "new person" to come on and ask something/or state something that doesn't fit with your way of thinking, and you get the pleasure of attacking the new person and stating that you are offended and the person has offended the Breed and disparaged the Sport of Schutzhund.   And so it goes.............

I've been wondering about a lot of things regarding this Forum and the people on it.

You don't see anything interestingly doggy because the OT's have monopolized the discussions to the point of why bother? You haven't even felt compelled to post a picture of your dog! Not even an avatar. YOU have made this forum your personal spewing spot for your political debating exercise and POV, ad nauseum. YOU haven't a clue what depth of selfless knowledge sharing and kindness that has disappeared from this site.

This is a dog board, not a "what does maggie like to talk about board".  If discussions about dogs in general and GSDs specifically do not interst you, what are you doing here?  Are you so selfish you think it's your right to screw up what so many have enjoyed for many years?

Maggie, I guess I missed that one, I suppose I should be apologetic, but I"m not. How about a new one, showing progress with her ear forms? How many GSD's have you owned in your lifetime? How's her training going? What are your goals for her? Do you have kids? Does she bite them? How's she getting along with other dogs? What is her pedigree?

She is adorable in any case.

The fact that this board is not heavily moderated does not give people license to endlessly and selfishly monopolize and ruin this board  posting  nothing but off topic threads. If you don't want to talk about dogs, go away.

Yep, he was our first family dog.  He was wonderful with the kids.   I have since owned 2 Toy Poodles and 2 Yorkies -- one of which I still have; he is going on 15 years.

You lost me with the Yorkie, LOL, my neighbor to the right has one and it just keeps yap, yap yapping at my dog, who just doesn't give a sh*t.

How many kids do you have? I have 2 boys, 9 and 13.

My Yorkies were never yappers (thank heavens).   My GS is a Male, but I won't tell him that you thought he was a she.

My "kids" are grown.  I have grandkids - 20 months (boy) one that recently turned 6 (girl) and one that recently turned 9 (boy).

Again Maggie, I am aware I can "click or not click" what you seem to have a hard time grasping, is this is a DOG BOARD, not a political board.  So the problem is when this board is clogged with off topic threads, and lousy with people who have nothing to do but post inane non dog related topics, it buries the dog topics.

THE POINT IS THIS IS A DOG BOARD, NOT A POLITICAL BOARD.  If you don't want to talk about dogs, what's the point of participating on a dog board?  Do the right thing for once.

Thanks for everything, Oli...

I've enjoyed the improvements in the site, and it's definitely a lot more user-friendly.

I'll be losing my high-speed internet here in the next couple of weeks and going back to dial-up (oh, great) since my hubby's getting ready to leave for a job, so I won't be able to post as many pics of Annie Oakley, because it takes forever to upload on dial up.  Nevertheless, I'll enjoy reading and posting occasionally.  Thanks again, Oli...You're the best!

The Pedigree Data Base has two forums.  One is for topics applicable to all breeds, the other is breed specific and shows up only on that particular breed section.   If you are frustrated because you find Oli's board, used as he intended, to be "irrelevant",  I'm sure with a little effort,  you can find a message board more in line with your particular interests.  Or you could always join Shepherdwoman's message board, or you might think about starting up your own.  Good luck in all your future endeavors.

Sue -

Well, I may write to Oil and tell him that he is wasting his time/money with the General Topic section -- I believe that it needs to go.

Oh, btw I was reading some old posts (when there was just the One Site for GSD's) and a Poster (who is quite obviously very knowledgeable and one of the "big boys") told you that YOU don't know what you are talking about regarding GSD's.   Therefore, I surmise that you (and your small band of followers) were "run off" the REAL GSD Forum because of your stupid, ignorant responses.

Please post a link, maggs.  Let's see what you're talking about.   That is if this isn't more of maggs made up bullshit.  I frequent the same sites I always have, never been "run off", most likely because I don't talk out of my ass and make stupid comments about things I know nothing about.

I have  no problem with people disagreeing with me, about dogs, but maggs, you are in a league of your own!  I have never seen anyone so breathtakingly incapable of learning from their mistakes.  No wonder you don't want this message board to center on dogs, unless the topic has to do with "look at my pretty puppy" you basically get slapped down and called out for every dumb statement you make, not by me, I only adressed your stupid ecollar statements, for which you are still stinging.  How many times do you have to be bitch slapped before you learn to shut your mouth and turn on your ears?

and yes, do write Oli, I'm sure he will take it under advisement -BAHAHHAHHHAA!!!!!

maggs just get over it, and  check your nasty ass tude at the door, otherwise I am done with you, and what will you do then?

yaaaaayyyy!!!!  gone with the proliferation of American politis.

Sueincc - you have more stamina than I do.  I became frustrated with the sheer volume of whining american political threads that I just quit checking out PDB for leisure purposes and only came if I needed to for something in particular to learn.

It's really nice to see dog related posts prevail again.

No multiple user names -- nothing even remotely close.

I have been burned on the Internet -- twice !!   I do a lot of shopping over the Internet.   My Credit Card information was stolen on two occasions last year (by two different people) to make purchases.   It took a lot of time to get this sorted out.   I had to file Police Reports (and the Police Officer really had no "interest" in following up on it -- I actually had to call the Supervisor of the Officer that took my report to get some action taken).   I had to contact all  three Credit Card Centers -- both by phone and in writing; I also put 7-year Fraud Alerts on my Cards.    It is not something I want to deal with again.

Oli has done all of us a great service by providing us with this site and allowing us to use it to exchange information about the dogs. Unfortunately, there are those who prefer to abuse his gift instead of treasuring and respecting it. The only way in which we will finally get rid of the trash and I am not sure it will even work is to ignore any threads that their name appears on. As long as we continue to even view the trash posts they will continue to post it.  Even a view is giving them the attention they so desperately seek.  We also need to ignore their pms as well.  Any response or view just fuels their inane frenzy.  They obviously have not read and or understood the terms of service.   If they post on someone elses thread don't go back to it just start a new thread and continue the discussion.  If they don't get any views or responses maybe they will clean up their act, which I sincerely doubt will happen.  As they say, a leopard does not change its spots.  Other than that the only one who can stop them is Oli and he is limited unless he can and will block their IP addresses.  Even that is not fool proof since there are ways around that too.  jmo

Red Sable;
Based on a pm from wazzup and the sunny 1 post I am confident that they are one and the same.  I do not think that GSLover123 is Sunny1.  Anita A and Kitkat are the same person as well.  I do no think GSLover123 is using multiple names but I could be wrong.  I have seen where he and palerider have teamed up against these women.  It seems to me that there is something going on between the 4 of them that has caused all this crap to go on and subject the rest of us to their feud.  I am rather busy and do not have alot of time to read all the posts on this site and or have time to post to all the threads that I would like.  I personally would not have said anything in response to any of it if I had not been attacked by these women when I first joined the site.  They apparently like to play the victim card while instigating the trash.  Since I do not really know any of them I am basing my opinions on my own observations.  At any rate, I will not read and or respond to any of their pms or posts.  They do not add anything of value to the threads anyway.

Oh Dogvoice I must point out that 99% of the people who make a statement like yours of (not reading or responding to any of their pm,s or posts) will result in egg on your face! I encourage you to not make a statement like that because when you do respond all those maggots will RIP you a new arse ! Sue incc is a prime example ! she adamantly complains about all those off topic posts and those who respond to them and then does the same thing she complains about! I think that if she is sucessfull driving those posters away it will leave more room for her gossip! I mean no disrespect but am only giving fair warning for your consideration.Hello sue

Raymond, while I understand what you are saying, they can say anything they want about me and it is no skin off my nose.  I am very confident in who and what I am.  I am quite capable of discussing topics that do not include them and or reflect on them in any way.  I do not feel the need to complain all the time either.  I have in fact made posts that did not voice a complaint in any form.  I prefer to live without all the drama.  There are alot of good decent people on here with a wealth of information who do not respond to all the trash and I  prefer to take a leaf from their book.

And as for that  GSD pup you bought for your grandkid as an investment , hows it paying off for him . Any training any breeding plans ? Funny from one who claims to be a state rescue person as you claim your self to be  to go buy a dog for profit ? $$$$ .Just the kind of things that make ya go hmmmmmmmmmm!!!!

Well YR has a point.  Actually, the posts from GSlover123 and Wuzzup are more annoying than the OT political posts everyone got so upset about, myself included.   I have hit the abuse button on all of those posts, which I didn't do on all of the OT political posts.  We can tell them to go elsewhere or just don't respond to the dumb ass, but they will never learn.  I'm hoping they get banned and spare us all their drama.

I agree Jim!! I find it difficult to comprehend : when we are required to pay more money in taxes whic eliminates funds to use to train or travel to trials and equipment and medical bills for our dogs that those concerns become "political threads"!! When the price of gasoline goes up it seriously hampers my ability to enter or attend conformation shows or trials! When the private trainers utilitty bills go up 25% that cost gets passed on to me in training fees! And since dhl has went out of business as a shipper due to rising fuel costs now those other shippers will be obligated to charge more for those small things one orders from dog traing sites! And all those small back yard breeders who are being driven OUT OF BUSINESS BY HIGHER COSTS IN REGULATIONS AND TAXES! nOW DO YOU THINK THOSE PEOPLE WHO POST ON OTHER POLITICAL BOARDS WILL CARE ONE FREAKIN BIT ABOUT SOME ONE BITCHING BECAUSE THEY ARE CONCERNED FOR THEIR DOGS? THEY WILL TELL YOU TO GO TO SOME DOG BOARD AND COMPLAIN!!When your village passes a law prohibbitting you from having more than one dog unless you are a kennel is a political post I guess? When rising utility costs runs yellowrose out of business I guess that is a political post! Well when they come and shoot your dogs or take them away because your village classifies them as dangerous do not come crying here! Why not shut those vulgar posts down first !

Whats up girl?? I am curious to understand how rising prices and taxes and jobless people has nothing to do with germen shepherd dogs! Sure I have more time to train with my dog when I am unemployed but for Christs sake what will I do when I cannot feed her or provide for medical care or take that trip to a local or regional trial or conformation show ! Heck Germen shepherd dogs are far more expensive to interact with than your average pet! I cherish my dog and all the bs one has to put up with from gsd people makes me wonder is it all really worth it? No we are scolded in talking about current events which affect our pocket book and dogs yet lets all honor and exalt ole Micheal Jackson and damned if you kick about that! I think the people need to have the skin saver around their neck and the leash in the dogs paw!

Raymond, do you even train your dog anymore?  I know you had quit the schitzhund club you were going to.  Did you find another club or venue to train your dog in?  We are all affected by the current economy, but I come here to get away from the economic news and talk about dogs not politics.  It's like a little mental vacation for me.

I'd rather you didn't take every chance you get to go back to the economy or politics.  There are some like YR, that have a lot of experience with dogs and breeding and can add something to almost any post on topic or OT.  Then there are those that only add to OT posts and contribute little or nothing to the dog topics.   Please don't be like that.  I know you love your dog, so let's hear a little more about your GSD.

Just a thought,

Jim

Well I missed that anita stuff I guess I am sure it had to do with you know who and I would guess the cowboy . And only one person have I ever been the least bit vulgar to  and we all know who that is.I may have had some arguments and difference of opinions with some  . but not vulgar . And if he wouldn't wait for me to be sitting here minding my own business typing and jump me with his yap I should be just fine . I was not attacking anyone  just chatting with maggie when he jumped in . He turns the threads around not me .Lest we not forget he has a posse who care nothing about the dog or dogs he has said he unleashes on us at will . Now all post from us and about us are copied and saved  before they are deleted so if I see where I have been vulgar to anyone I will come back and apologize to that person . Unfortunately I did not see the stuff that happened the night of the fourth so I have not saved that . As I said I hit the abuse button on myself several times I do not know why they are still up . I will not go back and delete them . though I do regret playing 123s game I fell into it .I  am working on ignoring him .I have been doing good I just HAD A TEMPORARY RELAPSE.

RAYMOND ,we may need to feed our dogs cheaper dog food they will live through the economic crisis on it . Buy good quality dog items collars leashes and the like now. They should hold up till things get better or we all end up dead then it won't matter anyways .Dog training as a sport can be put on hold, do what you can at home with some friends . Go to the feed store and stock up on items like tetracycline penicillin dog wormer's hypodermic needles . In a pinch you will be surprised what you can take care of with just a few good stocked items . Sometimes we dint need the vet for every little thing we can treat at home for less . Get some books there are a few good ones out there that tell you the dosage and when why and how .You may need some of that feed store antibiotics for your self if things get bad . I call it plan B . I liked Michael Jackson and I feel bad for him and his family .

Wazzup:  While I do not like to respond to you, I feel I need to clear up a few points once again about accusations you made about me.
1.  It is my nephew not my grandchild.  I am not a grandparent as yet.
2.  There are many types of investments.  I am not a breeder.  I invest in my kids and nephews future in the form of a dog.  However that is an emotional investment.
3.  It is my sister that is a registered rescue person not myself.

Now that I have cleared that up, please keep your facts straight.

Well whatever dog voice. I would think your nephew could have found much greater happiness emotionally by investing his time and heart in a rescue pup. Surely your sister would have been happy to accommodate the two of you . Along with the pure pleasure of helping a rescue pup. I was pretty sure my facts were straight . Alittle off but not to far off . I dont want to answer to you either . AS you see the meter spun backwards .

It's pretty bad when even Oli can't start a thread here without the PA mafia's dirty laundry ruining it.

If you have that much free time, find something productive to do. Volunteer, admit yourselfs' to the looney bin. Just get out of Dodge.

I'll bet if there was a vote as to what is the most annoying aspect of this board, you people would sweep away victory. Hopefully the prize would be banishment for life.

Amen

Wuzzup!

Go back and read my post, it wasn't addressed to anyone specifically. So if you're not guilty why respond.

By responding you are just fanning the flames. Try learning the word IGNORE.

You can't imagine how many people are feed up with your clans' BS.

Hatfields' & McCoys' re-incarnated right in here PA.

Now do me a favor, don't respond. That's right don't respond. Because responding in the first place is your problem.

IGNORE  ***I***G***N***O***R***E,

TRY IGNORING, you ignore, THEY go AWAY!

Adios
