I know it's just a pic, but I was wondering what are your thoughts on this boy? I was thinking about taking him in. Without sounding like a snob I still do want a pure GSD so I figured I'd ask the experts.
purebred - keep in mind that "purebred" does not necessarily mean "well bred" - but he is definately not mixed breed. He is nice-looking and looks healthy.
Awww! He looks like a lovely boy! Hope he gets a good home.....he looks like a GSD to me! White chest spots are not uncommon. Wish I had more room....! jh
He looks like he is Purebred to me. thats great you are wanting to rescue a homeless dog. there are plenty that are purebred out there looking for homes!
They require a 10$ application fee. They actually check referances as my friends said they called and they do a house visit also (I just did it 2 days ago). Then, once you pick the dog you want and see them and it seems like a fit they charge $250 donation for the adoption to try and cover all the vet bills and so on. I don't think that is much considering they place the dog in a foster home pay for all the Vet bills and all the food while it is fostered.
Also, I have posted her before but they have a Beautiful 8yr old female with her BH that is listed if anyone is interested in an older dog. Here she is again
I am proud to announce that Chance is now home with me. He has allot to learn and need to come out of his shell but he is here and everything seems fine so far. Here is a pic of the ride home. We think we are going to name him Ace, Cheesy I know but for some reason he seems like an Ace to my Wife, Daughter, and I.
good luck to you. glad that "ace" found a home. he looks like gsd workingline to me. seems to be happy riding in your car. hope all works out well. :) :) :)
Thanks everyone. Just a little update. He is doing good here and other then thunderstorm anxiety he is pretty good. He now follows me everywhere I go and is really starting to know his name. He had no obedience training so we are working on sit to start with. He sits well for a treat but sometimes needs a very slight tap on the butt to sit on command. He is not food aggressive at all and tolerates my 5 yr old very well. I have not even heard as much as a growl out of him.
Although he doesn't Sit, down, or speak he is great on a leash. He actually let my 5 yr old walk him in the park 2 days ago with out any problems (I was right there just in case he bolted). I've been very careful not to get on him much but do have a question for everyone.
I have another house behind mine. We have an 8ft privacy fence but there is a pit bull in the neighbors back yard. He likes to goto the fence and barks and runs back and forth with the pitbull. I think he is just "protecting his territory" but should I let him do it for awhile or should I nip it in the bud? On one hand I'm glad he feels like this is his area on the other hand I don't want to let him be dog aggressive. My Female just ignores everything and does her business and is ready to come back in. Any help would be welcome.
Hey, about the fence-running - is the pit nutso/unstable about fence-running? Or does he only do it if he has a "partner"? I.e., would he do it constantly even though your female was uninterested?
My far-from-perfect GS got sick of my new neighbor's silly unstable Papillon. That silly dog decided he's going to show he's not afraid (he is a coward at heart) and runs barking like mad back and forth on our fence especially when our GS is out. Originally, our dog was very interested in him and ran back & forth with him. But after a while, she's gotten sick of his antics. She runs with him once, then stops - while the Pap keeps going like a nut.
It's good to stop it, but your dog may just tire of it himself.
Yes, the pit is always there ready to stir things up. In fact one time I looked over the fence to see what was over there he almost took my nose off. I think I am going to stop the behavior and teach him it is not a good thing. Pretty much the backyard is an area used for #1 and #2. We walk them and run them up front for exercise.
