Hi all,
I will be doing some minor changes to the website in the following weeks. I want to make it a bit more user friendly and accessible.
I have been testing using monir icons and button effects (as you can see top-right, pedigree's and messageboard,. Hope you like the new look.
You can expect arrangement of links to change (the ones on the right/left side)
I will be adding a Stud registry (as the breeder registry), I am going to make both of them nicer (a bit of a spagetti list as it is, everyone rolled together)
I plan to send in the future a newsletter for changes rather than posting here (other breeds are getting more usage)
I still plan on making an avenue for people to register (pay) and get benefits. This is mainly thought of as a way to help those that use the site alot. I plan to have a closed forum, ability to lock pedigree's and such stuff. So many people use this site as a first-and-foremost utility in their line of work,. I need to give them a method to protect their work.
I plan to add more forums to allow specific interest to bloom. and much much more. I intend to use all my spare time in the next year towards adding to pedigreedatabase.com.
For those that do not know, This website was a huge (and I mean huge) cost for me for many many years, I kept it going since I a) love german shepherds, b) want to help the breeding community c) tickled my vanity that my personal programming was sought after.
Now it breaks even plus allowing me to buy a nice steak + Chablis once or twice a week. (still paying for past expenses though)
I get about 3-8 lawsuit threats per month, I tend to take most of them seriously and delete any offending material , buy recently it's been going totally overboard. I went and got myself a good representation by a respected lawfirm specializing in defamation and such stuff (Basically I wanted to know how liable I was for what was written here). Thankfully I am totally covered by US law.
Seems there is virtually no way anyone can sue me (and win) for anything that is said here. thanks to nice legislature that has witheld in the supreme court (and got a stronger protection there).
So, I plan in the future to be less harsh on deleting opinions (as lon as they are written as opinions. Ludicrous statement of fact I will delete. But I will allow opinions to stay.
From now on, al threats of lawsuits will go to /dev/null and not be responded to unless from a legal entity.
I am in my heart a guy who loves GSDs, I am also a computer nerd,. (which is why I do not interfer in arguments.) I love the concept of pedigreedatabase.com more then any individual data in it. (:)
Regards
Oli

Hello Oli,
When you say you are going to be less harsh in removing stuff, Can you say that this will go for all your MODs??? As has been seen SO OFTEN on the board that when remarks or statments are made that a certain outspoken person dissagree's with, then it is removed and sometimes the whole post is removed..
I will not name this person, other than HE is in the UK and does not like ANYONE to dissagree with him and is sometimes known as "GOD". He will also send threatening pm's if he does not like you. Can you confirm that you will be asking your MODs to leave debates alone weather they like then or not. |

We are truely blessed to have your intelligence & interest at work on this board, Oli. I feel that you, & this board, are changing the GSD more than any particular breeder or kennel by offering the whole world for any one involved in the breed to consider. Thank you. This board brought me Beckett & Wolf, & I am truely indebted to you. jackie harris |

Oli,
How did it work out with the copy cat site that was stealing image's and data? Just curious.

Oli, the changes are all very nice thus far and the site is certainly becoming quite user friendly as well. THANK YOU for the future STUD DOG REGISTRY! This will be a huge asset to breeders who are researching potential mates for their females. There's a lot that could be done with such a registry, like making it searchable via geographic location, bloodlines, titled/Koer'd, hip ratings, etc. etc. and I'm sure if anyone can do it, you can! Many thanks for all you've done and intend to do. The GSD breed and its enthusiasts are lucky to have a friend like you.
Many thanks,

Thanks Oli.
The time and energy you spend on this is amazing. Like Jackie mentioned, I also found two wonderful dogs using the ads here.

Oli, I am so glad this is breaking even for you. "Way back when" I used to wish you charged for it to keep it going--we all had severe withdrawal when it was down! I'm so glad the advertising model is working, at least, so you can keep the steak and chablis going. I hope you make a gazillion dollars--oops, perhaps Euros would be nicer these days !
Thanks so very much for your work.

Hello Oli,
I have a question and realize that, while the project I suggest may be monumental, it would greatly benefit GSD breeders throughout the world. We know that the titles (both schutzhund and HGH) and breed surveys of many dogs are not "real". At considerable expense, people who send their dogs to professional trainers abroad and elsewhere are distressed when their "titled" dogs return home and appear to have little or no training.
Without speaking German or having access to score books and körscheins, in order for us to make or to advise wise breeding choices, for each dog (registered on the PDB), we need to know (1) the trial venues, titles, all scores, names of performance judges and (2) venues and judges for all breed surveys.
We have recently seen in the performance tests at the USA Sieger Show in San Jose that many VA and V dogs and bitches were poorly trained and appear to have bogus titles. Unfortunately, although this show was a UScA event, many of the poorest performances were from dogs titled and breed surveyed with WDA clubs. Unfortunately, the WDA does not publish the results of breed surveys in its newsletter or in its website archives.
With these considerations in mind, I have come to the conclusion that the ultimate responsibility for legitimizing all titles and breed surveys throughout the world rests with the SV in Germany and its club of "good old boy judges" who foster these practices. We cannot begin to solve these problems at home unless the SV itself cooperates and is motivated toward improvement.
IMO, the only way to motivate these judges and the SV appears to be by exposing them and their unethical practices by providing readily accessible factual data in one location. This would be an invaluable tool and service for all GSD fanciers--one that most would gladly pay for. With this information at hand, we could attempt to better the breed by not supporting judges and clubs with questionable practices, not sending dogs to unethical trainers, and by not breeding dogs with bogus titles and breed surveys.
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

hi oli,
pity you never replied to my personal email message to you.
still perhaps i can ask the same question here and hope for a response-can you ensure that democracy still applies on this wonderful site and tell Mr videx ( who we all know is a moderator on on here, why we are not sure, you obviously dont know the man at all) to leave the messages alone just because they don't agree with his.-thanking you. |

First, Thank you for the upgrades. Looking rather nice.
Second, Sorry to hear of your troubles, well thankfully, lack of troubles. However, what are you requirements for obtaining material that has been deleted already? Do you require a written request from an attorney to you or your law firm? If it needs to be directed to your legal firm, will you be providing their contact information for those of us that need it?
I only ask because I have tried to contact you several times via PM concerning a thread that was deleted. To date, I've had no response from you. The Ohio Statue of Limitations is running thin, and I would like to get this matter taken care of as soon as possible. If my attorney needs to write a notice to you or your attorneys to request the thread needed, I would like to get that done as soon as possible.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Oli, there are a lot of computer nerds, but few software geniuses of your caliber. You created a great idea and had the drive, and smarts to make it real. Your site is truly unique and I hope you are able to regain all the money you invested and do well long term with this site. Certainly you deserve this. Any news to report on the cheap ripoff site that lifted some of your creative work? |

Oli, Once again thank you for all your hardwork.
I like the buttons for PM box etc. The folders at the beginnings of threads and the little pink and blue sex symbols by dogs pictures not so much. Find both distracting AND for those of us struggling with older computers its just more useless images for the computer to download and fill up theTIF files too fast. The old blue and pink backgrounds worked better with less distraction.
What I would love to see is that when you pull up an individual pedigree if there was a way by highlighting, coloring or underlining to show if there was any data in the progeny and progeny picture listings BEFORE you clicked on them. Would save me a whole lot of time ( again old computer slow to load) when researching. Even better if this was available in the listings when doing a name search so if I search a kennel name ex. Batu I could immediately see if an individual had progeny or pictures of progeny . Also since we're in wish land when you pull up a progeny or sibling list any way it could pick up the titles and/or hip status of each dog. Would give a great overview of what the litter produced So it would show
V Sample dog v.d. Oli Sch 3 a normal hips elbows normal
SG Littermate v.d Oli BH nochzuglassen |
