German Shepherd dog

I've heard many different techniques for trainin the out and would like to hear from some of the experienced ones here. I have a couple of young dogs, doing great on tugs and/or sleeve, but would like to know the best way to train the out.

I recently bought the Ivan Balabanov dvds and have a 12wk old pup outing 1st time every time after only a few sessions. The idea is to make the tug a game and reward comes from outing by immediatly starting the game again as soon as the dog outs. Only give the out command once then immobilize the toy the game ends and is no longer fun for the dog. eventually he releases and is rewarded with praise and the game immediatly restarting. He very quickly learns the sooner he outs the sooner the game restarts. No need for pinch collar or any force to make the dog release. Has worked so far as has his training methods for sits / downs etc

I also have the Bernard Flinks dvd which as you say is a great dvd. I must also say I am only starting out in bite work and have limited experience so you may well be right in regard to a solid bite foundation before teaching the out. Though in my own pups case his bite improved dramatically once I followed the Ivan B method. I suppose each dog is different as you pointed out.
