I think the same people are often at the top of any sport.  It might have something to do with talent and hard work, in my opinion.

I can't comment on this particular event because I wasn't there but if you where have animals showing (any kind of animal), you usually have politics.   We love it when a new horse show judge is at one of our shows.  Even if we don't place, we know the judging was fair and his/her opinion and not ruled by politics....yet.  Give that new judge a few years and that will change.

Congrats to Jim Lempner and Mike on high HOT!  Super dog.

Is it possible that the same people are on top because they are good?

So true about those helpers costing points. I think they breathed and it really rattled the dogs.

I believe Clay Meadows and Carl Smith were the helpers....a couple of excellent helpers and I doubt they gave anything short of a top-notch non-biased performance. Find something/someone else to blame.

Am I reading the results correctly? did 40% of the dogs that showed actually FAIL?

lmao!  Isn't that the truth?

I in no way meant to take away from the top placers at this trial.  All of them are excellent at what they do.

I'm just saying that politics exist in whatever you compete in and you just have to deal with it.   You have to love the sport and enjoy doing it or it'll just get you down.

This was the first trial I have attended at this level. I am very "green" when it comes to Schutzhund so I cannot give my opinon as to scores/points, etc but I was really surprised by some of the scores. Friday there was heavy, heavy rain all day. I was shocked by some of the low scores on Sunday - clear, sunny day. The tracking scores are what really surprised me. I thought Cira of Kraks Beauty (Phil Hoelcher) was spectaular. I did see Charlie's protection and Mike's obedience and they were things of beauty.

On Friday 5/9 those that tracked had to be in top form as it was the most difficult phase on this day.  Heavy rain and wind caused many to have a difficult time.  The judge from Austria did not take into consideration the difficulty of the day when awarding points. Saturday and Sunday, tracking was much easier.

Found out the female on the field during Lempners obedience routine had an infection that one can only imagine excreted an odor as if she was in heat, putting them in a most difficult situation.  Very unusual for this team to not post an SG score even under Judge Deacon.

I've never had the pleasure of working with Carl, but Clay Meadows can work my dogs ANY TIME!

I'm always delighted to see him doing the helper work in any event I am entered in. I always sleep well the night before knowing my dogs will be safe and have an absolutely fair opportunity to demonstrate what they bring Clay on the protection field.  :)  I am noted for bringing "bangers."  Many a fine, agile helper has eaten grass for lunch thanks to my dogs, but never Clay... a distinction shared with Gary Park, BTW, who even Onyx never managed to ake down despite years of clever effort.

Yes, I am bragging a little. Funny how the longer one's favoraite dog has been deceased, the better they WERE, eh?

Things do happen from time to time. But   T.Floyd and Wallace are almost always at the top of there game, they are talented, but more importantly they train hard and do very well - WUSV.

I think calling them    Damm people is a bit off the wall....they hold their titles because they are good. If you go back to all the schutzhund magazines and revisit all the WDA Nationals....always the same people   ......with exception of a few new ones who usually do good and go on with the rest of their life.

Am I the only one that sees the irony in the OP's username?

Realman, its actually pretty simple, out means out, blame the training, not the helper... and BTW, Charlie wins b/c he's an excellent trainer/handler & has one of the best GSDs in the country.  You should get out there and compete instead of bitching behind your keyboard.

Regards,

Greg N.

You guys are too easy!  Realman likes to ruffle feathers.  He did the same thing after last year's Mali Nationals.  I believe Clark is still waiting for Realman to meet him.
