I'm looking for top DDR studs both located in the states and in Germany available for breeding.  I am pretty aware of what's available in the states, but checking to see if there's someone that possibly has a top male that they aren't actively advirtising or possibly purchasing soon.  Please post the owner or kennel information so I can contact them, or PM me...thank you in advance!!

You may want to the following: http://www.gillsgermanshepherds.com/champped.htm.  He is deceased but it looks like frozen semen is available.

I was under the impression that all the true DDR dogs no longer exist, is this true?

Nothing happened to the Durbas breeding, still planned to take place in the next couple of months which I'm looking very foward to.  I'm trying to research and find out what else is out there for my own knowledge and research.

I would think for a dog to be classified as a "true" DDR stud, that such a dog would have to been whelped in the former DDR prior to the collapse in 1989, and that was nineteen (19) years ago. Nonetheless, I am sure the lines of the best dogs were preserved to some extent by mating with bloodline bitches (and their progeny) from the former DDR for a generation or two after the collapse. The registered GSD's of the former DDR were eventually brought into the S.V. system. After all, they were all from the same foundation dogs.

Since these lines were isolated from West-German lines (until a bit past 1989)  they probably represent more of the true GSD (my opinion-nothing more) than that of the S.V. flavour. But it has now been a long time, and sufficient time for six (6) generations of dogs from what was the DDR lines. To what extent is the "purity" available, if at all? Is it sufficient in any living dog to be of any merit, or is it just a desire to have? I do not say this to be a smart ass-I am curious and want to know. I did not think these dogs were available in such numbers to make them an important breeding group. From the DDR army and border patrol there were many GSD's available after the collapse but most were of inferior quality as far as breeding animals and merely "looked" the part.

Regards,

Bob-O

Wow Bob-O thanks for the enlightenment.

So I have heard the DDR has been preserved though Czech lines, as the DDR dogs are the foundation of Czech dogs(right?). I have heard many say that because of the this the Czech GSD is alot closer to the "true" GSD of yesteryear.....does this statement have any validity? Or was I just fed a line of BS......

I own a Czech female whom is my first GSD, at the time I thought she had the most awesome pedigree simply because her mom was a Czech import and her dad was 3/4 Czech......

Now that I know more about bloodlines I know she is from fairly poor quality bloodlines, not really that special. She has since been spayed and is my companion. I did buy her for ScH but she is just not cut out for it. Many years of research later I bought my male whom is from West German Working Lines. I see very considerable differences in the two. While my male is better overall, my female does things with much more intensity and sometimes is a bit "batty" for lack of a better word....

What bloodline or type of GSD would you consider to exemplify the characterisitics of the true GSD?

I like Champ quite a bit, but if you're going to be a stickler, he's 25% West German through his sire line--which is actually more of a (old) show bloodline.

Actually evadic 22 ,The czech lines were breed to DDR LINES probably to improve there lines, Structure health hardness. There are good and bad in all lines it just you need to take the time to research the lines. Some dogs mature slower and some faster. Thats the great thing about the net  if you have the time you can find the answer.Gentics play a key role in iny  good breeding program. If they breed crap they get crap,

I just went to look at the quality dogs web-site & my dogs are still
barking & growling, looking out into the yard, the sound track must
be from one angry dog!
