Can any of you help Champ's owners? They have already contacted some organizations that say they help with vet bills but they have either been turned down or placed on a waiting list. Champ is now taking Atopica, a very expensive drug. He seems to be responding to treatment, but there are only 10 days worth of meds left and no money in his account at the University of TN. He will probably need this medication for an extend period of time. They have also contacted the drug manufacturer, Novartis, asking for help. No response. Maybe someone out there knows of an organization that might be able to help Champ? If so, you can PM me or post it here and I'll forward it to his owners.
Isn't it sad to think that this family may lose their beloved pet only because they are not wealthy enough to pay for his meds?
This is Champ's story............ http://www.champsangelnetwork.com
Thanks, everyone! |

That is just a heartwrenching story. Can I ask what the % of prognosis is if he continues with the treatment? Is this something that's "cureable" or just "treatable"? |

I think the vets are hoping that the drugs will heal the open sores and can then be slowly discontinued and not be needed again. |

Hi,
There is an organization called IMOM that helps with things like this. The website is IMOM.org I wish the best for your friends and their pet. Take Care |

Blitzen,
I don't know if they know this, but have their vet call in a script for cyclosporine at COSTCO. It costs $99 for (30) 100mg capsules, which is one heck of a lot cheaper than normal cost. It is the exact same thing as ATOPICA. One of my guys is on it, and I was looking at paying more than $1000 per month total until I did some research! :)

I forgot to mention that you don't have to be a member of COSTCO to use the pharmacy. :) Just walk up and tell them you are going to the pharmacy and they'll let you right in and you don't need a membership card to purchase pharmacy prescription items. |

The University of TN is charging $350 for 90 tablets, a month's supply for this dog. The university has set up a fund for Champ. There was enough money donated for the first month, but funds are running low now. IMOM is trying to help too.
Thanks for all the suggestions! |

Champ only has about one week's worth of meds left. His family needs $350 for another month. The University of TN is selling this drug to Champ's family at slightly over their cost. If anyone can help, please click on the web site listed in my first post. So far a friend of mine has donated a few days worth of meds and will sell the drugs to Champ's family at hedr cost (she manages a vet clinic), but that will only be a savings of about $50 per month. This is not a GSD owner, she breeds Malamutes and has been touched by Champ's story. |

Forgot to mention that Champ's owner is going to check with the university to see if the generic is appropriate for Champ. It's our understanding it is not excactly the same as Atopica, a different carrier is used, and it may not work as well as the brand name. |
