Good Morning;
The log idea is a good one - esp for tracking. Notate things like the weather conditions, length and age of tracks, # turns, legs and where you place the articles. When you review it, with yourself and/or with your training director, you may see where the dogs's strong/weak points appear. Then you can adjust how you lay the track in order to give the dog more experience where he needs it.
Obedience depends on many factors, as well as where you are along in your bitework phase; you may want to discuss with your TD what exercises to practice at home. Keep on working!
