I don't know how helpful this will be, but this what I did with my oldest girl and I created a tracking monster.
I acted like a complete idiot when I led her to the track as she was learning. I mean, excited "you wanna such! lets go such! wooooooo suchsuchsuchsuch!" patting her on her side until she was damn near beside herself. She had no idea what we were about to do, but it had to be completely awesome! Then again, her personality is very conducive to being hyped up without losing the ability to think, so she was still very accurate. I guess it depends on your dog. I also would play with her at the end of the track after she gobbled up her jackpot at the end. She was my first ever tracking dog and we got a very pretty 94 point track our first time out.
I was actually really afraid of tracking before I got into it, now I have to say its my favorite phase, but I'm blessed with a dog that thinks tracking is the bees knees. I'm sure a lot of folks here have much better advice than me. |
