I have taken the liberty to add a new topic as this is time sensitive and very important.

Taken from a flyer I received this a.m.

Quality of Life Meeting, Monday 4/28/08 at 12:00 (Noon) - 2:00 p.m.

Location:  6th Floor, City Council Chambers in Dallas, TX (Take the Green Elevators to the 6th Floor and to the Council Chambers (this is a larger auditorium)

Format:  City Staff will make their presentation to the Committe.  NO speakers will be allowed.

There will be a Power Point presenation and the Committee will take this information under advisement.  The proposals are in a state of flux.  There will be a later date for a Public Hearing as revisions are made.

Order of Business:  1.  Considering allowing dogs on restaurant patios 2.  Proposed Animal Ordinance Changes; Ch. 7

The majority of the meeting will focus on the proposed changes to Ch. 7, Animal Ordinances.

Attendance:  The meeting is open and everyone can attend.

BE AT THE CITY HALL (GO TO COUNCIL CHAMBERS) EARLY  -- 11:00 a.m. we want to sit together if at all possible.

Dress PROFESSIONALLY

We need to remain intensely positive, not negative.   Do not engage peope who are opposed to our positon.  This is an opportunity to influence Council Members, not change minds of others.

We are in a public meeting and need to remain courteous and respectful of the decorum, so please no outcries etc.  We need to be professional.

Remember at all times that we want to educate, not alienate.

I am sorry to hear about this, but with any luck they will eventually do what Ft Worth did after they instated this law. They saw the negative aspect of people not registering, owners getting proper medical care  and shots, and a HIGH rise in Rabies because of it They did away with it rather quickly there after. I do think ther eis a midway answer but not this. More owners should be dealt with more sternly if they make mistakes, but not make ALL suffer because of it.

When did FW do this, I completly missed that?

I have decided that I will be writing a letter to the city of Dallas, letting them know that if this is passed that I will no longer spend any of my money in Dallas.  This is the only way that I as someone who doesn't live in Dallas Co can have any say in the matter.  I will not support a city that will do this to thier dog owners.  Maybe if enough people send in a letter too we can let them know that by supporting this we will not longer support Dallas.

Hi Heather,

I think it began in 2005 if I am not wrong but soon got National attention about them culling the program.

Fort Worth, Texas

  • ended its mandatory spay/neuter program
  • licensing compliance fell off after passage of the ordinance
  • There was a reduction in rabies vaccinations which lead to an increase in rabies in the city

if this passes and people get their dogs fixed and then it stops there will be some very angry people.  I have a friend that is writing a letter that we can all cut and paste and mail to Dallas to let them know how we feel about this.  I will post it here when she is done.
