Nutro this time   What food is next?  When I was told this could happen to any kibble by a dog food company that is when I began switching my GSD to raw.

I agree with larrydee.  I will never again feed my dogs anything that I cannot guarantee the contents.  I'm much more comfortable going to the store to buy a package of chicken to feed my dogs.  I know the contents of that package.  Opening that package is just as easy as opening a package of kibble, but way more healthful.

What really got me thinking was my last 2 GSD's died from cancer. I in large part blame myself because I didn't take the time to educate myself and lisitened to my vet and fed them a crap kibble.

What really opened my eye's was the article What's Really in Pet Food.  Believe me if you have not read this article it will open your eyes real wide as to the crap they put in a lot of the kibble you feed your GSD.  You can read the article on this site.  www.api4animals.org.   I urge everyone on this forum to read this article and then read it again print it out and give it all your neighbors.  I gave it to my vet.

This article not only changed what I feed my GSD but it completely changed what I eat and where I buy my meat at a local butcher shop.  You can't believe what a difference quality meat can make in both your and your GSD's life.

Yes, agree with you but unless your a wealthy person you would not say the same if you lived over here

I would love to feed Raw, but it would cost treble  to feed the Dogs Raw than it does for two people

The Avaliability is not the same over here as in the USA

So we have to feed on the best Kibble we can get hold of

i wish it was not so

Steve

Steve - do you know any people that hunt?  Are you close to meat processing plants, butchers, etc.?  This is where I find the best deals.

I know you feed your dog's Orijen I feel it is by the best kibble on the market.   I also feed it to my Gunner.  He is on 90% raw meat and 10% Orijen.  But when we go away for the day I always bring his Orijen.  With the quality control that Orijen has I am not in the least afarid to feed him Orijen.

Steve1 I commend you for feeding your dogs Orijen. I know it costs you an arm and a leg to do it over in Europe. As GunnarGSD says you might want to seek out some local farmers and see if you can get a good price on locally grown fresh meat.      I get Buffalo meat and Red deer meat also Reindeer meat from local farmers at very good prices.

In the United States you can find out about this at    www.deerfarmer.com

Nuto is still one of the companies who have the    Menadione in their foods even the Holistic one ..which I think is quite funny. and sad...Menadione is a chemical   Activity K...not a natural ingredient at all . Produced in a chemical lab...I have been adament about this for a year now since learning about the menadione ...It is also put in cattle food and then it makes it way to our tables also..But unless Americans complain and refuse to buy these products, these companies will never listen..I called Nuro and they just laughed at my call and  the Nurto Rep at Petsmart is reading this post , as I just sent it to her..I told her about it and she was to tell her super,,but what good will that do..She is a super sales lady and Petsmart sell tons of this food....

Not to me or my schutzhund club or the Houston ones either...this is the same ingredient several ask me about last year in the    Exceed products sold by Purina dog food co.   at Sams

Message to AMERICA

do not buy     NUTRO    till this company can prove it is safe and has no chemicals in it....

ANd has meat that is safe and comes from animals not dead and diseased before they acquired.   Maybe    "60 Minutes could do a tv special research on Nutro  like they did the Iaams COmpany...Sure did shape them back into correctness for a little while..

What do you feed. I am running out of options, I am cooking for my dogs more often, Half the time. These recalls affect super premium foods as well. There are no standards. Watch this video, the president of aafco. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4nZKP-h-Bk
