Feeding duck (7 replies)

Hi I was approched recently by a local duck shooter asking if I would like some fresh wild ducks for my dogs. So is it ok to feed them duck? I was once told that wild ducks can carry disease. |

Freeze them first. Make sure you get all the shot out. I plan to feed duck and goose to my dogs too, once I start hunting again. |

You never get the lead out of the duck, even if you remove the large pieces. Shot has a thin, fine residue. Feeding any amount of lead to a dog would certainly not be my idea of an appropriate diet. Lead is toxic in very low levels. |

It's steel shot now hodie. You can't use lead on ducks and geese. |

OK, better then, but I wonder if the steel also does not have a fine residue, including solvents used to clean it? Don't know, have not used it. |
