Hi I was approched recently by a local duck shooter asking if I would like some fresh wild ducks for my dogs. So is it ok to feed them duck? I was once told that wild ducks can carry disease.

Freeze them first. Make sure you get all the shot out. I plan to feed duck and goose to my dogs too, once I start hunting again.

 You never get the lead out of the duck, even if you remove the large pieces. Shot has a thin, fine residue. Feeding any amount of lead to a dog would certainly not be my idea of an appropriate diet. Lead is toxic in very low levels.

It's steel shot now hodie. You can't use lead on ducks and geese.

 OK, better then, but I wonder if the steel also does not have a fine residue, including solvents used to clean it? Don't know, have not used it.

Steel shot's a pretty eco / body-friendly thing. Theoretically it can be eaten and passed without the consumer suffering any adverse effects. Here's a bit more info on steel vs. lead:
