Well I had my 10 1/2 month old off leash and walking on a path with a pack. All was going well. Until he saw a big old goat. He chased that goat up a 40 or 50 foot hill stride for stride with the goat. The hill was very rocky and steep with large sharp rocks. The goat got to a ledge and turned around and was holding him off with those big horns. Bart my dog was just below half way up the ledge not backing down and barking. Bart finally went up the 6 or 8 foot ledge and the goat butted him square in the chest and flipped him. He landed on one side and I got control of him. Boy was that scary. He lifted his front paw for a second but was ok. A friend with her three GSDs followed me up and helped me get him down as I was in flipflops. Scary scary scary. But he is ok.
Is this herding instinct? I am going to get him tested asap or just one crazy puppy not afraid of a goat that was bigger than he was?
Scary but funny now looking back on it.
