"LARGEST WORKING LINE GERMAN SHEPHERD KENNEL IN THE UNITED STATES" (57 replies)
I'm wondering what criteria this claim is based on? Number of dogs? Volume of sales? Or size of the actual kennels and land? ( I am told Kreative Kennels is situated on 5 acres of land.) kreativekennels.com/home.htm |
Big deal. I see ads in my area for the largest land area for a boarding kennel and the kennel has 5 acres or perhaps 10. I have far more. It is a stupid way to advertise and means nothing. But they sure breed a lot of dogs - that is a different issue altogether. |
They claim to average 150 dogs on the premises. I bet that's what they are basing the claim on. Working Dogs "R" Us |
I went to their website under stud dogs and some of the dogs have titles that I never even heard of: ZZO, ZPU1, ZPO1,ZPS1, RPD-3 and EDD-3
I assume that these titles are equivalent to schutzhund titles? What does the abbreviation stands for? What's different about these partiular titles then the average SchH title? |

Brittany
Most of those are Czech titles. In other languages they use different words and letters. Things like the BH, FH, PPD, etc. don't trasnsfer directly into the same letters. Do a little research.
The only thing I found interesting is the fact that they just got into Shepherds 6 yrs ago when one was given to them as a present. They are now the largest after six years of intense research. |

Why would anyone WANT to be the "Largest" ????????????? Wanna be puppy miller??? Sheesh...

I can't wrap my mind around the 150 dogs on the premises. How many kennel workers would you need to give that many GSDs appropriate care?
I guess it would be possible to learn all you would need to know in order to import, train and breed such a huge undertaking. Personally, I don't know enough and I'm not a slow learner, maybe if you concentrated on nothing but working line GSDs you could do it? Or I guess if you have a lot of money you can hire all the right people to do the job for you? |

I keep hearing about Kreative Kennels because they are affiliated with the breeder here in Wisconsin where my longcoat male Trigger was bred. characterk9.com/ (They were called Challenger Farms at the time.) I believe this is where the gift of a German Shepherd came from. I was surprised when I went to their site today and saw the claim of being the largest working line GSD kennel in the U.S. I also know their prices are very high. Last year I called them about a 10 month old (at least I think she was about 10 months--can't recall for sure) untrained female longcoat and was quoted a price of $3500. |

Great marketing can do wonders! If you "say" you sell high priced dogs, and "say" you have lots of dogs, maybe you will appeal to those who think you have something that you really don't.
I wanted to go out and look at a male they had, and my very good friend told me I would be very upset if I went out there, and saw the conditions of the dogs.
I normally don't post to negatives on this list, but this kennel from what I have heard, just has a great marketing team! |

Don Corleone,
I'm more into the West German Showlines and West German workinglines. I don't know about the Czech lines. You seem to know more than I do so why don't you help me to do the research? After all I do come here to learn new things. Can you provide me some useful links to help me to learn more about these equivalent titles in the Czech lines? |

Trio, thanks for posting the link to the list of abbreviations for titles. |

"wanna be puppy miller" Drew, you are so funny sometimes!!!! |

Thats a lot of dogs, and new construction. Lots of money....... Ya got me, maybe they are the biggest, if not it looks like they are trying real hard. |

I really like Qunato jipo me, but for readily avalible dogs I'd go with eurosport just ebacuse they have been around longer and have a better rep. |

I didn't mean to offend, but it is just too easy these days to do some research on our own. For shits and giggles, I just googled "zpo dog title" and every one of those titles was pretty much explained on the front search page.
I am not an old man, but most of the useless knowledge I have gained is from going to a place callled the library. People used to go there to look at these things called books that contained information on pieces of paper. For quick reference, each book contained a glossary and index to enable you to skip unwanted reading material. The books are all arranged in a system called the Dewey Decimal system. To find the book, you used to have to go to this filing cabinet and look alphabetically and it would give you a number that helped you find a book. Later, they added computers that would give you the number of the books at a faster rate.
I know I sound old, but with the internet and all resources, I think it is so easy for one to look up anything! I am willing to bet that if I truly wanted to figure out women, I could do it with the aid of the internet.
In my next session of "History Revisited", we will talk about Phone Booths, Parachute Pants and Common Courtesy. |
> I researched on how to figure out the female species(human). For some strange reason the computer kept freezing up causing me to finally give up and become totally frustrated.??.
> Eagerly looking forward to your next session as long as it does not involve the female species. As stated above my computer somehow never seems function properly when attempting to research this subject. |

Sue, I did not know any of the trainers at this kennel do you?? Some of the pedigree's are solid working but to say this litter would all be good trackers seems a little mature? One ad said all puppies would be suitable for family, top sport or Police ...usually the three you do not find in one dog and how would they know at the age of eight weeks seems a little seedy to me. Conficting statements usally a top sport prospect would not be a good family dog? Marlene |
I guess they don't want to leave any prospective buyers out of the equation so they say their pups will be able to do it all. They are most likely faster than a locomotive. They can probably leap tall buildings in a single bound too. |
I apologize for my sarcastic remarks, I couldn't help it, they just slipped out. |
Ditto, Drew! Why would anyone want to be recognized as the largest working dog kennel in the US?
It's all about marketing to the gullible masses. Non doggy buyers will be impressed by that brag while dog savy buyers will wonder why the heck they would say something like that on the net. I doubt that anyone here wold even consider purchasing a dog from this kennel. Am I right? When you really think about it, it's a very stupid thing to say since that sort of advertising attracks the AR extremists like PETA. |
I see little in their advertising that differs significantly from the myriad of ads placed on here by large and small breeders alike who claim that any given litter will be suitable for just about everything......Just look at the ads even from those well known on the site.
The only difference with this kennel is their size. While I am not impressed with that, and know better than to believe every pup in every litter is capable of everything, others who do not know what they are doing will be taken in, just as they are by the breeders some of us know about who buy VA dogs, or produce one here or there at the cost of a hundred other pups and dogs who are essentially neglected. Others will be taken in when told of the incredible qualities of the pups produced. Later, when the buyer realizes they had no clue about what they were doing, then realizes the pup does not meet expectations and the breeders themselves often had no clue about their own dogs, trouble arises.....same old stuff day in, day out. These people are no different.
Bottom line? No one cares.....if we did, we would ALL being doing something about the problems, not just talking. |

Watch the "UP-TO-DATE" videos of Quanto Jipo-Me. Who are the trainers these people are working with? Are they working him on a live ring of a choke collar? I do not see them wearing any type of protective pants either. 150 dogs? Insane. How could they all be getting the quality care they need? Who needs that many dogs?
Triodegirl,
In the other link you provided there is a picture of a male on their front page with this claim:
"Here is Phantom, a beautiful Karats Yoker son out of Kessy vom Trobachtal who is a full sister to Kliff vom Trobachtal who has some great sons in germany, everyday he looks more and more like Kliff himself."
Look at the picture of "Phantom von Pallas Athene" on their site and compare it to Kliff vom Trollbachtal. The reason he looks more like Kliff himself is because the picture is Kliff himself. It looks like they edited it along the top of the picture to remove the dirt. Why do people do this? If you are going to steal a picture of a dog and edit it to say it is yours, why would you edit one of such a well known dog?

I was interested in them after they purchsed Quanto, I used to check in on this dog at the Jinopo website. At first I was happy the dog landed in my state. Still a days long drive from me up North but at least that was closer than Czech, where as close as I could get to the dog was video.
I was quickly driven away from my little dream of a Quanto pup, after inquiring about puppy prices. NO way in hell, this gals paying $2500 for any pup ever. Now after reading this thread I am really saddend, not for myself but for the dog. I don't recall reading the biggest kennel statement back when I looked at their site. I also hope for the dogs sakes the 150 number is a bad estimate to make them appear larger than they really are. I can't even imagine how shocked I would have been if I had taken 2 days out of my life to drive down to a place with 150 kenneled dogs. ( All I can think of is how busy my 3 GSD's keep me and I work at home)
Marlene you are right, who are these trainers? Never heard of them or their work. A couple look really young. I'm not seeing anything urging me to pay those prices for pups, except the dogs themselves and I can find another dog or line I like just as much or more. I've not heard wonderous things about Quantos progeny yet, I was just struck by the dogs beauty first and satisfied with his working abilitied in a few videos. Maybe my lesson is next time I will not be pulled in so hard by beauty. I can honestly say there are many dogs that have blown me away by their videos and not looks, I will remember that next time I go dog shopping.
I'm not bashing them because I never did see the place, people or the dogs myself. I just personaly feel that 150 dogs is way too many to get the attention and training a dog needs. I can't wrap my head around the idea of why anyone would even want that many dogs? The owners cannot know every dog by name or their temperaments. I wonder if they put you on hold and have to transfer you to the person assigned to that block of dogs, when you inquire about one. I mean really, how much realistic info are you going to get on one dog when they have 150? He's gonna get lost in the crowd, assigned a # instead of a name. |

Alexis I just watched thee video you speak of after I posted. It is the live ring on a choke and I never heard a command given to the dog. I hear the guy behind the camera say present the bite up high, gee wonder why? The dog ends up way low almost on the decoys wrist. |

When I was looking for a puppy like you there was no way I was going to pay $2500.00 so I moved on. A friend of mine bought a puppy from them a few months ago and I told them wow you paid $2500.00 she said no I paid $1200.00. She had been looking for a puppy for 2 years and stayed after them on the price till they dropped to what she could afford.

Alexis, that does appear to be a picture of Kliff rather than Phantam. I'm going to ask about that. I don't know the owner of the kennel very well, but talk to the trainer on a fairly regular basis. I'm surprised, but like I said, don't know the owner very well. Only met him briefly at a few training sessions. The comment about Phantom looking more and more like Cliff everyday makes me think it might be some kind of joke to see if anyone notices?

It appears to be a picture of Kliff, because it is: www.pallasathene.de/PallasAthene2003-GB/Hundeseiten/kliff.htm This is the link to Kliff's memorial page. I consider myself lucky that we have a beautiful, very father-typical Kliff-son here. I also used to own a Kessy-daughter out of VA-Larus and now have her two daughters here. I just love that line.
As to the challenger farms thing: Another case of false advertisement. I have stumbled upon them a year or so ago, when a German forum friend asked me about them. She had feared that their female ended up in a breeding operation. Enough said. |

Don't you also just love the picture of Air Force One - trying to imply the secret service buys their dog. I've seen the same picture on several of these "Executive Protection" dog sites. Much can be answered if you just go to their other site - Creative Genetics. Same phone number for both operations just more honest on the CG site 800 645BULL.
These guys are dairy farmers and come from a farming background - ergo I'm sure the dogs are looked at as merely livestock so they see nothing wrong with a scenario of having 150+dogs and selling them as guard dogs for used car lots ( see their site). I'd just bet they have very little knowledge of the breed; doubt they've ever read Capt Max ( including suggestion that no one should own more than SIX GSDs at a time) and have no clue or if they do don't give a rat's a** that we find this kind of commercialism offensive.
What amazes me is that people sucker so easily and buy from these folks AND buy at incredible inflated prices . I love how on the guard dog page the dogs are offered WITHOUT training just natural aggressiveness and lo and behold who buys one of those but a sheriff's department. ARRGH!
Make no bones about it this operation is all about money - not only do they obviously have it but they are making it too. In 5 weeks from 2/21 to 4/1 they had 4 litters with puppies offered for sale for a total value of $48,000. From4/18 to 5/24 they are expecting another 4 litters and I'm presuming expecting a similiar financial windfall. The owners have a very successful business selling imported bull semen for cross breeding purposes and are quite obviously very good at marketing themselves and their products - and good at making money.
I live in Northern Cal - never met these guys at a trial, never seen them exhibit ( plus nothing on web to suggest they every have). As far as their "trainers" - Greg is the brother of the owner of the site and is a dairy farmer and works with the Creative Genetics company and from what I can see by their site prior to 6 years ago didn't even know what a GSD was. Ryan works for the CG company as an AI tech (a number of his family works for CG so not sure if they are related or what). Couldn't find anything at all about the third guy. I do love the training pictures -state of the art facility with falling down fences and chicken wire. Enuf said. |

I was just curious.....does anybody have an idea of how much thaey paid for Quanto. Quanto looks huge in the new videos of him, not very impressive. |

Larrydee, Is it possible for you to comment on the quality of puppy that your friend got for 1200 dollars. At the end of the day the Haters, speculations, uninformed commentary, and readin on the website mean Nothing to me. What would mean something to me would be the quality of the dogs they are selling. I know a little about Czech and West lines and its obvious to me many that are commenting know very little(trying to be diplomatic) about the dogs or lines yet are making judgements on the product. If they are in the business of selling dogs and they are selling dogs of good value the other BS is just that ...BS! |

Right, who cares how the dogs are cared for as long as you can get a good deal . |

Gustav
She just loves the pup that she got. It is everything and more than she expected. If anyone deserves it it has to be her she spent 2 whole years searching for the pup. I congradulated her on her deal. The pup is very healthy full of energy and mischief and has stolen the hearts of everyone in her family. She plans on doing Schutzhund with the pup but he is also a perfect family companion. It really couldn't have worked out any better for her. |
Oh yea great video Sue, my 13 week old pup has a fuller grip and the decoy and handler can't even let the dog counter. Glad to see them reward him with the sleeve for that crappy bite. That's high dollar training right there. Hope they don't keep buying these nice dogs, just to bring them to the states to mess up. What a waste. If they have all of that money they need to invest some in actual trainers. They are probably not worried about trainers as these dogs wont title again, just used to pump out some pups anyway. |
Annoys me to see good looking dogs, with good breeding being trained in a sub-standard way. |
Annoys me as well. Both the handler and the "decoy", if one should even use that term, are at best substandard. We have women in our club who are more adept at handling and decoy work. Too bad people don't care about knowing what the hell they are doing rather than simply making some money.
For people who would say, ok, the dogs are good, well, I say "no training is better than poor training" and when you get a dog these jokers have played with, you will have a lot of remedial work to do to fix it, if indeed it can be fixed. The two in the video are going to end up getting bitten. Maybe that might help them think about getting some training first before they do this kind of work. Taking care of dairy and dairy animals is a far cry from managing a kennel and training dogs.
But, so it goes in the GSD world. No one cares and there are enough people who will not do their homework and will buy here too. Pathetic. |
It really is a shame they don't have bettter trainers. I've been told they paid somewhere in the neighborhood of 30K for Quanto. I've also been told they sell green dogs to some kind of government training facility out there for 5K each. Does that sound right?
Another scary thought. The 150 dogs (I was told 160) are only the adults. Doesn't include the puppies. |
Sueinc,
"I said", the point is; "if she gets a good DOG,"I said nothing about your opinion of the care or training. It appears that Larry answered the question about the dog she received. Excuse me, if I put more value on first hand recepients of this kennel than internet speculators. If the quality of the puppy she gets is good, she can always get good training, if the quality of the puppy is substandard then the training can't offset that. The lady seems to have gotten a good puppy and everybody glosses over that fact, but we can still find some negativity......I guess this a typical day for the board! |
Yes Gustav, they may produce geneticly fine pups but they do sell older "green" and adult dogs, that is the scary part. Not much they can screw up on a pup bred on good lines as long as it leaves at 8 weeks and hopefully gets good enough socialization by the time it leaves the kennel. Good genetics will get you so far but it will not take you all the way. 1 pup and positive feedback doesn't make them a great place to buy from. I can let the dice roll and come up with a good dog I aquired out of a cardboard box in front of Walmart too but I wouldn't recomend it for everyone to go out and try.
No matter how you slice it, the training is less than OK. I can hire a teenage boy down the street to catch my dog at the park and put it on video. That doesn't make me a trainer, a kennel or a good business person. KK's have some very nice dogs, some dogs I wouldn't mind owning myself but after seeing the fiasco they call training, I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. 2 years is too long to irritate someone into selling me a pup at a price I feel reasonable. Plenty more breeders willing to do it from the get go, no work on my part needed. My feeling is they want business they need to earn my business, not me kiss their ass for 2 years until they see fit( had an extra pup that wasn't selling for full price) to sell me a pup. |
Yes, typical for this board. Maybe we are just jealous since we can't claim to have the largest working dog kennel. |
4pack,
Where are your examples of the bad pups to offset the one good pup. If you don't have any where is your point of reference for judging the quality of pups they sell? No matter how all of you cut it; you haven't presented any first hand information on their breeding or selling of German Shepherds as being substandard. The opinions are garbage because they aren't based on direct knowledge and the instances of direct knowledge you have you want to blow off with some comment about Walmart puppy in a box. I happen to knew a few people that have gotten some nice dogs in their opinion from this breeder. Being as they are the consumer that's what is important. Don't want to trivalize all the armchair evaluators opinions, but can they have the benefit of people reporting experiencing some of the things being ASSUMED by some on this thread. If you spend as much time pointing out the good of their breeding as the bad then maybe we can have some balance and newbies MAYBE can learn something. Otherwise opinions that are second and third hand are still BullS..T! |
Not gonna take a stab at the training huh? NO takers on how great the videos are? Didn't think so, nobody can be that stupid. Oh wait...I shouldn't say nobody, obviously people have and will buy from them, and will no doubt actually be impressed by the quality of the videos. Who cannot see the before and after performances from these dogs and notice the decline? I was pretty much sickened by Quantos recent vids. Sure the genetics will still be there to pass onto pups, but what a shame about the adults. I guess it is an OK sacrifice to optain some puppy sales? I personally think it's sad and a little disgusting if not ignorant for someone to spend so much, obtaining good quality dogs and not going the extra mile for at least one decent trainer to train the remaining boys to handle/decoy dogs.
Watching video 2 he has alot more fight.
If you look close at video 1 , I think he has been worked so long in the apparent hot dusty conditions the dog is worn out. Not defending the two working him at all , did you notice the nice sports car on video 2? Not a cheapie!
What you ya'll think? |
With the prices they charge for their puppies one would expect they could afford a pair of scratch pants.... |
curious on exactly that as they are projecting themselves as high powered dog people yet look like teen-agers out having some fun? |
Now all kennels must be great trainers and have great videos to meet armchair validation. Quality of puppies is secondary to these aspects. YOU win and I need my head examined to continue to engage in this dialogue!!! Continue on with the great commentary...I'm outa here. |
Actually I am not even referring to the quality of the pups at all, in fact I was bringing to attention the possability that these guys had worked the dog to exhaustion in the first video and showed much more drive in the 2nd video. Myself I would never think whom the owner of trainer of a dog was dictated the quality of any breeding.
The other point was that for being such a large kennel one might expect to see more professional looking trainers. |

Sorry Desert Ranger...my remarks are not directed at you...another reason for me to shut up...Take care! |

25 brood bitches holy crap.
No problem. I don't that that boy is bad at all; some good training, fix the less than full bite and he's fine. |
Sad. Dogs being treated as livestock. These are a bunch of yahoos who have made money in the farming business and are now making money off GSDs as livestock. Just my personal POV but I see a difference between dogs and cows/pigs/chickens. It is unfortunate that reputable kennels like Jinopo abroad sell breeding dogs to puppy millers like these. For them, it is all about the money too. |
I had a look at this Site
It looks as if they have nice facilties, and have spent a lot of money on the set up so good luck to them, Biggest or smallest the main thing is the animals welfare and they seem to provide it
One thing which did concern me was the way the Trainer Pakwerkers were dressed, and the way they work is not impressive at all
The fellow with the Black Dog holding the Lure above his head with bare arms, My Fred would have took both the Lure and his Arm together in seconds
Plus the Fellow in a t shirt bending down to the Dogs height with his face level with the Dog. that is Bad Training, and very amatuish, they need to improve a lot on that score
Over here the Training session would not have been allowed to take place
If only one Dog is going for Protection the Pakwerker gets kitted up correctly
It only takes one time for an accident

Largest, smallest, whatever. All I see is low hipped, roach backed skinny GSD's. And what's up with the obsession with Czech GSD's? Every time I see a picture of one of these it looks like they fell in the mud and were shrunk in the process. Guess I don't have that discriminating eye that some elitists on this thread claim to have. Keep these dogs under the porch where they belong. Real dogs laugh at them behind their backs because they feel sorry for their dumb asses.
And for those of you who seem to "know" who the top trainers are you need to get out of the house once in awhile. There are so many "top" trainers in this field you couldn't find enough paper to write their names down, much less commit them to memory. You never heard of my trainers but they are authentic so I don't need your seal of approval to know they are the real deal. The top trainer isn't the one with a trophy. It's the one that teaches the dog that takes down the perp who tried to enter the wrong house - are you feelin' me now? And I sure ain't talkin' no sleeve play! Those dogs on that web site you alluded to put me to sleep. My "pet" quality dogs look like they're on meth compared to that lame dog and pony show. BTW get used to paying top scrilla for real dogs. Yeah, there are dogs that merit 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, 5500, 10,500 and beyond. There are also great dogs at the SPCA that were just too much dog for the pea brain owners who failed them. Remember the dog's greatest limitation is it's OWNER.

Yes Max, you have told us many times how your great big giant coated shepherds are so much better than ours, they can kill other dogs and men just by looking at them hard. If we all give you a collective oooohhhhhh and aaaahhhhh will you go away and leave us to our poor scrawny working dogs?
You are such a troll. |
