Hello Everyone,

My female gsd gave birth to 5 puppies last night.  It is her first litter.  My problem is the mother is not producing her milk for the puppies up to this time.  What shall I do to help her produce those milk.  We are temporarily giving the puppies replacement milk from Royal Canin.  Is this a good replacement milk?  We are also giving the mother some herbal capsules (moringa) to help her produce those milk.  What else can we do?  Please help us.  Thank you and I hope to hear from your inputs.

When you asked this same question a year ago, you got some good answers. See http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/99263.html#99263

My concern from this and your other posts is that you seem to be lacking in knowledge re dogs and dog health in general. I would strongly suggest you think about stop breeding until you have sufficiently educated yourself. Otherwise it is jsut the animals that are suffering.

For future reference, there is a product called Vertex, made by Canine Performance Nutrition, I suggest you get your females on it. This product will help with the production of milk in the female. I have read numerous testimonials about it and I tested the success with 2 of my own females. One female produced twice the amount of milk that the other one did.

Mr. VKFGSD,

Thank you for your sermon.  Are you a priest?  Anyway, my posting last year was a different bitch.  For your information, the same bitch gave birth to 6 puppies (2nd litter) and they are all fine.  No problem whatsoever.

Today's posting concerns a young bitch.  This is her first litter and how the hell can we know that she will not produce milk for her litter?  Can you answer my question, Mr. VKFGSD?

give the bitch plenty of fluids .and let the pups suck as this will help stimulate for the milk to come down.

This is an excellent supplement for the mother and pups.  Human grade milk protiens with a macro nutrient profile that reflects canine milk during the first 6 weeks of life.   It is lactose filtered and also filtered for fat and allergens, this is an extremely pure protein source.
