Yes, if it's to CONDITION a dog, such as tone its muscle, build its endurance, and generally improve its health, then yes, a raw diet would be beneficial. A vet visit is still in order just in case, as before starting ANY exercise program, a visit to the doctor or vet is in order for human and animal alike, especially if the individual has pretty much been a couch potato (inactive). Build the dog's endurance like you would for yourself- start by walking fast or jogging slow, don't go far, pay attention to the dog for signs of exhaustion, don't do this on hot days, examine the pads frequently, and give plenty of time for a cooldown walk. Swimming is great for endurance and running in sand is great for toning muscle. Biking with a dog is a great way to build endurance. Feed high quality kibble that is low on grains, preferably no corn but this varies with the individual, and make sure there are lots of kcals per cup for energy. Groom the dog to remove loose and dead hair. Do lots of fun training, mental work, and bonding, because a physically beautiful dog will be absolutely stunning and glowing if it's well adjusted, enthusiastic, and ready to go! We got our rescue dog looking great by upping his exercise, putting him on raw (with plenty of eggs, olive oil, and fish oil amongst other goodies), and building his muscle, not to mention lots of training!
