Has anyone seen the video of this puppy? (23 replies)

Yes, pretty much. Isn't motivational training great? I've had a pet owner who had their seven week old pup sitting, down, come, and crate within the first week using food and toy motivational training. Veronica |

I have been training multiple breeds for awhile and the Shepherds I've seen just can't do what this pup can do. The intelligence, focus is just not there. Obviously there is a difference between What I've seen and what appears to be normal in the working lines. Where can someone look to access pups like this one? |

Why not contact the trainer in the video?

I found this description of the video: "Seven week old puppy from Ronaldo Zellergrund and Quendi vom Olympus learning heal, sit, stand, platz."
So the pup is actually German Showlines, not working lines. You can google the sire and dam to find out who the breeder is. |

I'll save you the trouble. It's Windy Ridge Shepherds in Harrisburg, PA: www.windyridgeshepherds.com
I have Citta's brother, and I cannot speak highly enough of the lady who breeds and trains these dogs.

Some pups are just smarter and more bidable than others. My female pup (12 weeks) working lines come from a litter of early adn quick learners. The breeder told me a litter mate was doing the same OB as the pup in that vidoe at 9 weeks. I thought OK cool. Didn't start doing anything with my pup for 3 weeks after she arrived. This news about the o ther litter mate ahead of the game got me thinking "I need to get this girl working." Once I did I can't believe how fast she is, picks it right up and will remember those commands the next day after one session.
If I had more drive, the sky is the limit to what this pup could do at an early age. We want to be serious in protection work so I have stopped the OB sessions at 4 commands, now I do them one time daily to make sure she hasn't forgot and we are done. Soon I will be trying for a bark command. |

The whole video is photoshopped. They shrunk the dog down like they did the hobbits in the Lord of the Rings. That dog is really 7 yrs old!

If one has a good pup with the ability to concentrate, yes, you would be amazed at what a competent trainer can do. I have video of a pup I may buy that would blow the socks off this pup, nice as she is. It takes a dog and a fine trainer knowing how to motivate. My friend has a 5 month old here who is dynamite as well. One must know how to select such pups and then one must have the skills and patience to work with them. One potential drawback is that when one does have such a pup, one wants to go ahead too quickly. That CAN lead to trouble down the road when the dog is burned out. So another critical skill is to understand how to maintain a good level of training. It is a nice pup in this video and the person working with the dog knows how to use the dogs' natural abilities to her advantage. I would like to see more work done at this age with a rag or a small tug, if preparing for Schutzhund, but I also normally begin with food as the motivation. Nice work here. |

That is the very beginning stages of teaching a pup to track. |

I have met the young woman in the video. It is amazing what she can do with the pups and her dogs. She is truly incredible with them. (Don't know if she would want her name out there on the web, so I am not naming her)
She occasionally works with our trainer as well, and has come to our group training. It is just as amazing in person. She definitely has "a way". :-)
Kudos to the trainer!

Great puppy, wow,. Not quite sure about the "out" being associated with pain though? Whatever works i suppose. Good luck, great prospect for the future.

Now that was impressive. Very nice, huge pup, he is larger than my 13 week old. I'd like to see him get rewarded a little bit more at that age but still nice job. Super drive on that little guy. WOW! |

this question is for zacsmum
Not quite sure about the "out" being associated with pain though?
I thought to myself when i saw the video a month back that the trainer is not really teaching the dog to out actually what my opinion was that he makes more drive by keeping it active and the pup don't feel he is being punished if that's what pain is to you.
This pup is being trained in a different way than the other puppy
totally different concept i think this trainer wants active power he don't do the food thing and does not prays the pup with the normal good puppy thing but with his ability to maintain an unbelievable attention and prey drive to any type of objects
Can you reply on your input so i can understand.
thanks

BTW.
The second video looks like a scent pad to me.
Same way I start my tracking. Simply basics. Continuing drive for the food and the scent... just watched a few seconds of the video... I do the same with my pups. Scent PADs as I call them... sometimes connecting pads. I never start my dogs in a straight line, they need to learn food comes from the ground and the difference between broken (scented) and not broken (not scented) ground.
Good looking obedience... it is fun to see what young dogs can do. I still love the video I had of the pup that went to a friend in Maryland doing the send out by that age... it was the CUTEST thing... he'd be so exhausted he'd grab the toy and lay down right after :-) Great way to teach platz hahahaha.
The sire is a wonderful dog. The young lady is a great gal if I do say so myself. I enjoyed my visit to her club a few months ago and occasionally she is training out my way. Lots of knowledge and she is great with the dogs.
Cheers and congrats on the great work girl!!! Hope the sire's owner saw this... I'll send him the link just in case he hasn't!

It's really very simple. The puppy has very good temperament, and the trainer has done some very good work. Plus the puppy is very nice looking too. |
