Rookie, a large black and red male, approximately 3 years old belonging to one of the owners of the message board http://shepherdcentral.com was stolen or released from his yard yesterday afternoon (4/4/08). If ANYONE hears anything about this missing boy please reply to me or post a message on that board.

I've never had a dog stolen, so I can't imagine the anguish it would cause. I'm sure a few people slept better last night than they have in the last two. I just love happy endings to dog stories, don't you?

I like happy endings too.  This is a crazy country, where you have to think always about the safety of your animals.  On my last trip to Germany, I was asked where I keep my dogs because I have a nice big fenced in backyard and I said in my house because I don't want to worry if my dogs are poisoned or stolen.

I find this urbanization to kill alot of the joy of owning dogs.  I cannot take my dogs anywhere where they can run off leash, although sometimes I feel we are the only ones that follow the leash laws.  On my own property I protect them by making them live in airconditioning and watching TV during the day. It is just no fun anymore.

None of the 4 gates to my side yards and front patio may be opened from the outside. All fencing (including gaits) is 6-foot redwood. If anyone wanted to open a gate, he would have to climb on a ladder to reach or jump over it--and risk the consequences.

If I have unexpected visitors, the dogs generally "announce" their arrival. Otherwise, I have most people trained to call me from outside on their cell phones. I usually walk outside and meet people by opening the electric garage door.

I am so happy your dogs are back home and safe,

My dogs have done stuff like that before the 7 foot fence went up, they mostly would work in pairs,

I call it partners in crime,

The dogs weren't being devilish, somebody maliciously let them out of their yard.

I wanted to thank all of my friends for cross posting this for me.  The friends I have made on these boards really know how to pull it together in a crisis.  I was very touched when I saw all the cross posting as I didn't have time to do it myself.  Thanks to all of you.

IT was a very scary few days.  Then when we found out it was done on purpose-made it even scarier.  But thanks to a very observant and intuitive woman the boys are safe and sound.   You never think it can happen to you....but it can-so keep vigilant with your dogs (and kids).

One of the "perps" lol, got bit-so we are hoping for infection!! lol

To funny on the bite, that dog deserves a steak followed by a bit of Ice Cream.....
