| I have an 18 month old GSD who is an intact female and for the past 5 days has been peeing more than usual. It's more frequent, and it seems like she pees a gallon. I'll take her out and she will pee for like 5 minutes, and then proceed to pee at least 2 more times while she's out. She's submissive peeing, in large amounts. Two nights ago, she peed in the floor overnight, which she has never done before. It's not strong smelling, it's not dark or cloudy, it's not like she's straining to pee, she's drinking her normal amount of water, it's just a lot more outflow than usual. Do any of you have any advice as to what it could be? |

| Take her to the vet. It could be a bladder infection or she could have diabetes. Get her checked out. |

| Thanks. It doesn't seem like she has diabetes (seems really young, no history of any low blood sugar, no excessive drinking), but it's best to make sure. And I've heard it could be due to coming into heat, but she was in heat between January and February, so it seems a little soon to be coming back (however, her first cycle was from the end of September to the beginning of October, and then again in January). |

| If it was diabetes,she will be drinking more water,but you should check her anyways. She could be marking ,kind of like a male and yes,she could be in heat ( maybe a split heat ). Good luck |

| There are other non diabetes and non urinary infection related causes...that will need to be excluded. Its unlikely to be diabetes, because it does not start in a day. After ruling out urinary infection...there are rarer, more complex issues to consider. Check with your vet. |

| Diabetes mellitus could have an acute onset, and those with DM would have symptoms of hyperglycemia including increased urination and water intake. There is a lot in the differential at this point though, so best to take her to the vet. They will probably want you to bring a fresh catch of urine. I'm sure you're vet will test the urine for glucose, protein, and RBC at minimum. |
