At what age can a puppy be imported from Germany?

by GSCat on 15 December 2021 - 20:12

To which country are you importing? If the US or Canada, which State/Province is the final destination?

Is the puppy intended as a pet, service dog, K9, breeding, show, sport, or?

Is the puppy being imported by a private individual, organization, government agency, or business?

Are you traveling with the puppy or is he/she being shipped? Are you or the breeder using an agent?

How is the puppy traveling (land, ship, or airline)?  If common carrier, under which country's flag?

Is the breeder in Germany, or is Germany just the shipping from country?

All of the above can/will/may influence requirements.

Importing to the United States, into Salt Lake City. Puppy is intended as a pet and will be shipped via Pet Air from the breeder. The breeder is in Germany and the litter will be whelped in Germany.
I have imported a couple of puppies in the past at 10 weeks old with no issues, the most recent was about a year ago. This breeder thinks the puppy must be four months old, so I am just wanting to make the rules have not changed.

puppy can be imported to the US between 10 and 12 weeks, does not need a rabies vaccination in that time space if the mother is up to date on her vaccines. After that you have to wait until they are 4 months old, 4 weeks after the puppy's rabies jab.

Bea-this is good news.  Is there someplace "official" online this is in writing?  All I found in the usual places was for dogs, with only a passing mention to puppies needing to appear/be healthy

Just out of curiosity, can anyone shed light on this process if importing from say Germany or Czech to Canada (puppy or older)? I heard that it had become much more of a hassle recently but know that people are still doing it. thanks

dogsportman357, recently there have been changes in the laws for importing dogs from countries where African Swine Fever has officially been diagnosed, and that situation does include several European countries, so that might be the difficulty you've heard about lately.

Having just traveled to Europe with a dog for competition there is alot of confusion about dog import/export. There are a bunch of countries where you are flat out not allowed to get dogs from to bring into the states because there's been issues with them lying about rabies vaccines. Not many prohibited countries in Europe but I was told that Lufthansa was not allowing dogs to fly into the US at all at the time (this was late October). Hopefully they have it fixed by now

I just got back from the airport picking up a dog from Czech. I imported two puppies about 2 months ago 10 weeks old. Shipping very expensive but no problems
