Scores reflect skills of handler/trainer...not necessarily the dog.

I disagree. The fact that the dog had been titled in SchH and PSA was brought up. The sport (if properly applied) is an evaluation of" the dog" for the breeding suitability of "the dog", not the handler. If it weren't for the series of standardized tests, who evaluates the dog, you?

Duderino, lets see your scores with your Doberman. A simple question was asked, no one brought up scores or ? if a doberman could do the work. Lynx, http://www.youtube.com/user/springborodogpack#p/u/14/CXafQa9jh-Y http://www.youtube.com/user/springborodogpack#p/u/13/4lPULCYXopU

And a retort comment was made that because a dog has a SchH3 doesn't necessarily make it an "outstanding" dog. I personally don't consider a Dobermann to be a working dog (any more). At one time maybe, but in this day and age, the breed has been taken over by the show line standard and working temperament is secondary, if that. A Dobermann was brought up in the conversation of dogs with multiple titles from different disciplines to which I will reply, for every Dobermann with a properly tested SchH3, I can probably find 100 that cannot do the work. Personally, I would hold it in much higher regard if the dog had a FR or Campagne or NVBK title or NVBK certification than I would a PSA title written on notebook paper.

Personally, (again) I think when a Dobermann enters a SchH trial, it should do the long bite first and maybe the escape bite second and if it can pass those 2 exercises, properly done, then let it go do the other phases. If I see one at a trial, I don't even watch the other exercises as it hurts my eyes. Just show me the long.

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot that if you have a contrary opinion and find flaws with a popular premise or theory, that must mean you are wrong and lack knowledge of the subject matter. I kinda like things more in the 60's and 70's before everyone had to be politically correct and people didn't cry if you told them the word "No".

I never get on here and post comments. Duderino it's all fine to post your opinions, you just don't have to be an ass about it. What ever happens to people having respect & basic manners? By the way PSA is a lot more than a title on "notebook paper"

Duderino, if you can tell me why the dobe isn't the greatest at those two exercises, I might actually respect you.

Because they don't have the prey drive to pound an escape bite or the prey drive or courage to pack the "courage" test. I can't tell you how many times I witnessed a Dobermann "fly by" the long bite only to hear, "he was running soooo fast, he couldn't stick the grip", when in actuality, he never opened his mouth. Now Don, can we be pals?

Duderino, you're pretty much right, but Dobes in SchH are like sticking an Eskimo in Beach Vollyball. They historically haven't been breed for prey.

You are correct sir, except neither was the Malinois and last I checked, they do pretty well.

.....and K9 moto?? As far as your last statement, maybe to you, but to me? Not so much. I'm not impressed by little shiny things.

Lynx: I just sent an email to gsdfan regarding posting a video of Andy doing PSA. Melanie is one of the hardest working handlers out there. Not only did she put a SchIII on him and PSAI, but she put akc titles on him to. This dog is very versatile. Melanie retired Andy after his PSAI due to his age, otherwise I am sure he would have continued to impress in all venues. I have a 1 year old female out of Andy, who I am training in Schutzhund. I feel very lucky to have a pup out of him. Cheryl

Personally I think anyone who puts a SCH3 and PSA 1 on any breed should be applauded. Getting a Malinois to preform prey based excercises now that's tough .....

Metroploitan k9 is not in NY state. Its in Curtis Bay, Maryland. Its 20 minutes from my house. Also Greg and his wife breed Mali's not GSD's. Greg is the East coast assistant director and holds 1 of only 6 and the 2nd ever female psa3 titled dog. also with the most ever titled dogs in the sport and between him and his wife i do beleive they hold the most national titles in the 3's as well. possibly across the board. So Greg is an excellent resource for anything regarding the sport!!! Psa has also implemented a sleeve division for the low levels to accomodate schh persons who wish to test their dogs at the sport before jumping right into something there dog isnt ready for. I know of multiple shepherds whom have titled in both sport venues. Though it isnt popular. Mali's dominate in the sport as far as quantity of dogs are concerned. Andy maly vah definitely was a respected dog in the sport as well- to whom ever posted about him. No insult to shepherd owners as i am one myself. However you dont see many Gsd's worth there salt here on the east coast on the field in PSA. I think ive seen maybe 12 competing in PSA in the past 2 years and only 3 or 4 of them come to mind that belonged on the field in any sport venue that involved protection. Granted i only go to about 3 trials a year. So the quality GSD presence just isnt there around here. It would be awesome to recruit some more people whom have quality GSD's around here to compete!
