Hi

I've bred other breeds before, small ones like tzu's as well as golden retrievers. All with registration and with champion ancestry.
Last May, I've branched out to include GSDs in my kennel. My first bitch was mated then.

She was mated on day 10, 12, and 14 of her heat. All tied and well. She has never been a foodie but a week post breeding, her appetite picked up (YEY). She ate quickly, her bowl empty in 2-3 mintues, though I still maintained her usual ration.

4 weeks went by with this new found gusto for food. No morning sickness whatsoever (Which is always a welcome situation).

However, during her fifth week, she started to slow down her speed of eating. She still finished her bowl but it took her longer to do so, and she wouldn't immediately approach her bowl after I set it down. She wasn't as excited to eat.

At the end of her 5th week, she ate only half of her bowl in the morning. She'd eat her dinner well, I believe because she was hungry from nearly skipping her morning meal.

Hoping for assistance since by now, she should be more voracious already, with me putting in more food for the development of her pups. With my other dogs like my golden and tzu's, by  now they'd be big eaters. I don't think this is morning sickness because its week 5.

So far, she's gained a bit of weight in her midsection but she still has a tuck-up.

Thanks.

What is going on about your bitch is absolutely normal, especially at about the 5th & 6th weeks of pregnancy. She'll pick up, eating heavingly after a week and a couple of days after this, depending on when she started going off food. Just try your human best to provide good food and live the rest to her hormones/instincts to determine. Goodluck.

Mine always ate less during that time, I think it just didn't taste good to her during those weeks. It took me mixing canned food into her regular food every meal, for literally a few weeks to get her to eat what she needed. Once she had her pups though then she'd eat normal food like a pig.

i would say up to  the 6 week is normal after that she should get better , but if she is a first time mom , some of them wont eat. give what ever she wants to eat- main goal is to get her to eat.
