260 bucks.  Wow...

deworming tablets & 9th week shot cycle including distemper &
fecal sample.

I was even charged 5 bucks to dispose of the syringe.

Is this normal?

Is there any way to lower my costs?

You should have taken the syringe and disposed of it yourself. lol
Yikes, I'd look to see if there are any other vets around.

Yeah that is pricey.   My vet charges me $55 for exam; shots; and deworming.  A bit more if I take extra deworming for the 2 & 3 round to give at home.

Fecal sample can run more, but not $205 worth.   Shop around.

I have also found that many rescue agencies will have low cost vaccinations.  Just take standard puppy precautions and you should be good there for the next 2 rounds of shots.

My vet charges $25 for a fecal, I buy the vaccines from the vet and give them to the puppy or pups myself for $12 each, and if for a pup usually strongid dewormer, for $10, an ounce of strongid that lasts a good while.    Your vet is a little bit ridiculous.

Sitasmom, that's why I like my vet....no appointments unless you're getting surgery done on your dog.  You just show up, and they take care of what you need.  It always sounds weird to me when I hear people setting up appointments for their vet, or some having to pay just to enter the door for that matter.  Aside from calling around, if they google different vets in their area they may also see reviews as well. I noticed them on the one I go to, nothing but very good reviews and tons of them for that matter.

Kind of expensive.  I took one of our gsds for her annual check up today which included all vaccinations, fecal, heartworm test, physical exam, and cleaned out her ears.   Cost me $75.

OK..take this to the bank.

Go to Petco or Petsmart for vaccinations.
For puppies, routine deworming can be done 3 x without a stool test. You need to deworm irrespective of any stool test result. Infact, in most instances a stool test is not needed. A test could give a false negative...just give the meds, no harm done.
For Fleas/ticks buy from Petco without a prescription.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You only need to go to the vet, when you have a problem...think about it. Using this advice, you will be fine in 99% of cases.

Tired of vets...

We tried PetSmart vet practice years ago--rip off.  They did not give vaccinations without a physical exam and they were always trying to do extra tests which were out of the norm.  Not only that, but they nagged you about purchasing their pet health insurance plan.  The last time we took a dog to them, we saw an older vet who was retired and only filling in for the regular vet who was on vacation.  He told us that PetSmart was a scam when it came to veterinary care and advised us to find another vet.   We did and our vet now is cheaper than PetSmart.

My experience is only from Petco, who have not tried to push anything. I assumed that petsmart would be similar.

ggturner, guddu, that's why it comes in handy to know how to give them yourselves.  It's only $12 per vaccine when I get one at my vet and we give them at the house.

In my state it is against the law for the rabies vaccination to administered by anyone other than a vet.  In my county, there have already been 3 cases of rabies in domesticated animals since April.

  RUN BABY RUN

YOU GOT RAKED INTO HIS WEED PILE

NO WAY IN CORN COUNTY , should your bill been that high..

FIND another vet...period

DO not go to petsmart of Petsco for anything in the veterinirian part..period...Crooked as a dogs hind leg ...I know....we have had posts on threads here and have had members here who know how they make money at Petsmart...vet .

do your own shots..order fro www.revivalanimal.com

even if you have to order a crate full....and only buy the puppy shots 5 in one...no lepto...

BUY YOUR OWN WORMER, at the Local feed store..It is called GOAT WORMER...19.OO FOR A BIG BOTTLE... It is Panacur just what the vet charges 26.00 for one treatment..your bottle will last two yrs. or more or do a whole kennel of dogs..

take to vet for fecal and one exam a year to check heart monitor..do the testings at 2 yrs old and find an experienced OFA vet that sCHUTZHUND members use in your area.

Do some asking around and find out by reputation I have three wonderful ones here and where I moved from yrs back and have friends back home who use them..I also tell my vet what I want and how I want my dogs treated. You have to be informative and read up on here many threads about what kind of treatments for well dogs..I have no experience with dogs that need vet continual care...so still you can get taken very fast.

I am sick of money hungry Vets
