Personal protection work question... by goodwink on 18 May 2012 - 22:07 |
| Let me just start by saying that I have no knowledge of bitework or the training required for personal protection, but I do have a question. I just saw a bitework video and it was really good at first...the helper had a sleeve and appeared to be trying to get the GSD to go after the sleeve....the dog looked disinterested, then I saw the helper hit the dog's owner (gently) to aggrevate the dog. Is this how personal protection training goes? I continued to watch the video and he did this several times until the dog was really mad and went after him...It caught me off guard, and I was wondering if this was a common training technique? |

| depends on the age and level of training.. if the helper is experienced enough he should be able to 'read' when the prey is lagging and time to kick in the defense portion of training.. I cringe as an owner.. but it is a nessacary part of protection if done correctly ! do you have a link to it.. like Ibranim requested.. I would like to see it too.. |
