Do any of you feed avocado to your dogs? An aunt of mine has an avocado tree in her house, and claims that during avocado season, the dogs get a very nice silky hair, due to eating fallen avocados. I started giving my dog a couple of slices every time I eat avocado, which is about every other day, and the hair DID start to turn really smooth. Just not sure if there are any side effects. Anybody know?

It is THE highest fruit in fat content so depending on how much they eat, it can have the same effects on them as it does on humans as far as weight gain. My dogs always ate the fallen avocados and mangos off my trees I had, did not have any problems, but, I did watch for the high calorie/fat content.

the pits in avocado contain Cyanides and can be extreemly dangerous to dogs. the meat of the fruit should be ok. but if the dog eats the pit it can be dangerous i havent heard of anyone saying bad about the meats. apples mangos peaches bitter almonds all contain it. aswell as a few others.

Apple seeds have arsenic in them

You can put three in  your husband coffee everyday for 30 days and he will suffer heart castrophe and die..no one will ever know apple seeds did it.

Avacado is perfectly safe..NO one I know gives them the big ole seed. YOU plant it on the garden and grow a tree ..Save them , let them dry and whallah  a tree

 I have one planted

Avocados is the ingredient  in      the famous dog food....AVODERM...

THE FRUIT CONTAINS many good vitamins for all of us.

I would feed them too if they were  not so expensive.. Hopefully my tree will live..I understand they are hard to get started but once up...grow in Hawaii big beautiful avocados..

so I guess the bottom line is it is ok BUT just make neither the pit nor the skin is eaten, and as with everything, with moderation.

Yellow rose, You post is too explicit. I just hope nobody wants to eliminate a spouse. I hope, you're not offended.

  HEE HEE HEE

I heard on by the GRAPEVINE>>>lol

NO offense taken..

it is TRUE.....Actually read it in Prevention Magazine about 20 yrs ago..

And in the DOG Fancy magazine they said the same thing...about using it in your spouses' coffee...lol

I may still have it.....somewhere...it made me realize how poisonous they were..I always am careful where and how I dispose of apple cores...never let a puppy or a dog get one...no telling how many it would take but I do not want to find out.....

NO better way then to get every ones attention.....lol
