Seems like there's a few new brands/companies since the last time I needed to microchip. With the changes & new products, what's currently the best one?
I heard that AKC CAR is now using the Home Again microchips, but haven't been able to verify it.

I have had a few Avid chips migrate and one Home Again chip stop working after implantation. I like that you can update
your information online with the Home Again chip and they don't charge you $6.00 every single time. Plus you can add
pics too. Personally I prefer the Home Again chips, though I do know there are a few other brands out there, I'm not
sure what their names are.

I think it's more the way implanted, and site, if they migrate or not. I've used Avid chips for years and had only 1 migrate.

I know a dog named "Razer" who has "resQ" and it is registerable on line for free and most important is "ISO" ... you can update info at no charge and any recognized ISO reader will read the chip ............................ the registration and updates are done at petlink.com ..... Regards .............  <G>

I like RESQ microchips as well.  Home again requires yearly fees.  RESQ does not.. and as another poster noted, they are ISO 9000 and can be read in other countries.  It is free to do updates when you move, etc at www.petlink.com and they will even send out posters to all local vets/shelters if your pet is lost/stolen.  They allow you to post your pets photos as well.

Home Again does offer a ISO microchip. I just am not sure if all ISO chips are the same??
They don't require a yearly fee, unless you want their extras. They just don't advertise that you don't have to pay annually. I have my current dogs microchipped with their ISO chip & never paid a fee other than the intial registration fee per dog.
I will look into the ResQ chips... thanks

Here in UK I have had experience of chips that stopped working. My Vet implanted 3 pups for me and 2 chips stopped working. 3rd one seems ok but it is rather worrying as this pup is going on holiday to France with his Owners and if the chip stops working the Owners will be in a very poor position of possible 6 months quarantine. So fingers crossed. I contacted the supplier of the chips who then contacted the manufacturer in USA who said they must have been implanted incorrectly !!!!   Don't think my Vet was very happy at that comment.  So now I have to chip the pups again plus another from another breeder that failed, so fingers crossed, but I am losing confidence in the chip now. I always used to have my pups tattooed but changed to microchipping as I believe this is now the norm in Germany. I have two new German Imports that are chipped rather than being tattooed.

I implant chips and have yet to have an issue. Another lady I know implanted in a different location vs where I do and had an issue with chips migrating or swelling around the site. I think location is very important. Even when implanted correctly, I think location can have a negative effect.
