To hell with this, I'M DONE! by DDRCzechFan on 05 May 2012 - 03:19 |
| As my title implies, I'm fed up, I threw out my TOTW, after finding out from an almost hidden link on Diamond's website that TOTW, among other brands originally NOT listed in the recall, have since been recalled. Screw this crap, Diamond can kiss my arse. Luckily, because I WAS getting rather paranoid about the damn food (guess what, now the Pitbull's sick!!!) I went and bought a new brand of dog food. I tried defending TOTW, I tried saying what a good food it was, how even the price was fairly reasonable, but after going to the TOTW website NUMEROUS times and never once seeing a damn peep about it being recalled UNTIL TODAY, I'm pissed beyond words! What's even better, because it's a voluntary recall, no financial compensation, either for sick pets, or the price of the shit food will be rembursed. Well, this is my official "Lets Give TOTW the BIRD!" declaration. Here's what I ended up buying tonight: Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance, Limited Ingredient Diet, Sweet Potato and Fish formula http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dogformulas/SPFish.html#Feeding Here's WHY I chose this dog food: GRAIN FREE ALL life stages 21% Protein 1% Calcium Limited Ingredients Price was comparable I have no idea if this will work with my kids or not, but I'm giving it a try. Just curious why no one recommends Natural Balance. I've seen lots of people recommending Orijen and Avoderm but I don't think I've ever seen anyone recommend Natural Balance. I doubted that TOTW was involved in the recall, I truly, with all of my heart, wanted to believe it wasn't...For others who doubt, here's the link: http://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/information/ I will never, ever vouch for TOTW again. And for those (I'm positive I know who) who will jump on here with the "I told you", you can save it and shove it. My other kid is now sick, I could care less if you were right and I was wrong. All that matters is I now know what it could be, and treat accordingly. I want what ANY good, loving, pet parent wants...Healthy fur kids. That is all I want. EDITED TO REMOVE THE "NOT AFFILIATED WITH". I was informed by Natural Balance they manufacture their seperate foods in a Diamond plant but are not MADE by Diamond nor with Diamond products. Swear, I can't win for losing. |
by Jenni78 on 05 May 2012 - 03:23 |
| Um, don't shoot the messenger, but Diamond makes that, too. |
by DDRCzechFan on 05 May 2012 - 03:26 |
| Oh for god's sake, really? I was informed by NB (I called them earlier) that they manufactuered their OWN dog food, in a Diamond plant, but are NOT made by Diamond. Guess the whole "not affiliated with" was wrong. God it's been a long day. |
by DDRCzechFan on 05 May 2012 - 03:34 |
| Thank goodness for reciepts, guess the NB is going back to the store tomorrow. *sigh* Can ANYONE give me an actual, comprehensive list of foods NOT MADE/AFFILIATED/ASSOCIATED/PRODUCED IN Plants of Diamond Pet foods? Yes, I know Orijen is one of them, any others? |
by Darcy on 05 May 2012 - 03:47 |
| the natural balance is recalled as well.... I have been feeding the venison and bison formulas to my senior male becasue the low protein low fat grain free was easy to keep weight down on a dog with no hips(essentially). Our dates don't match, but he will be going raw alongside my girl who has been on raw.... just have to add a few more veggies in his. he is 13 and i am not risking him getting sick from kibble. | http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/home/NB_recall.html here is the link.... for the NB anyway |
by Kalibeck on 05 May 2012 - 03:54 |
| Go to dogfoodanalysis.com. They'll give you a complete run down on the food, & they generally mention if Diamond manufactures it, or if it's made in one of their facilities. That web site has a lot of excellent, impartial information. Good luck! jackie harris |

| Thank you Darcy, while I did NOT see the Sweet Potato and Fish formula in there, it doesn't matter, the NB is still going back to the store tomorrow, but I DO thank you for providing the link. Gosh, just when I think I've gotten enough egg on my face for one day. I'm so red right now I could probably fry them! EDITED TO Thank Kalibeck for the website :) |

| I am feeding Wellness. However, they too are switching/adjusting formulas. I was feeding the Core until they added pea fiber which led to huge greenish poopers and gas in my guys. I switched them all to LID Salmon/Rice my allergic male was on already with good results. But in the last bags where coupons for the new formula, which will be potato/salmon. I saw a steep increase in price at Petco as well and order it now online from Wag.com (no taxes, free shipping, about $10 cheaper). what I dont know is if they have any relation to Diamond. You can give them a call 1-800-225-0904. I tried NB before Wellness and the guys had stinky mushy yellow poops which were a pain to clean up. After 4 weeks and no change I got tired and switched to Wellness, still the best food I ever had. |

It is with regret that we are reporting a voluntary recall on a limited production run of CANIDAE dry dog food produced out of the Diamond Pet Foods South Carolina plant. We are working diligently to make this process as seamless as possible for you, our retailers and consumers. Although there have been no animal or human illnesses related to Canidae Pet Food, and the product has not tested positive for Salmonella, the company has voluntarily initiated this recall out of caution to ensure the health and safety of consumers and their pets.
Following is an example of how to read the production code and best before date:

| Damn. I feed the kennel dogs Canidae! Actually, all the ones I have in right now are on their own food, from home. Looks like I'll be switching to Lifetime as the 'house' brand from now on! It's made right here in Ontario (sorry guys, not available in the States.) It's wheat free, corn free, and they try to source all their ingredients within 40 miles of their plant. http://www.petacular.com/canine-plus-lifetime-dog-food-582-prd1.html They also market large animal feed under the name Shurgain. The parent organization is Nutreco. |

| Okay, for those who are interested, I have looked into (not 100% sure yet) but I am THINKING I will be giving the kids THIS: Earthborn Holstic - Grain Free - Meadow Feast formula http://www.earthbornholisticpetfood.com/us/dog_formulas/meadow_feast/ It has protein levels I'm comfortable with, it's grain free, all life stages diet, calcium content acceptable for large breed puppies, and *AS TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE* Is NOT a Diamond lacky of any form. If I'm wrong, please, someone tell me before I make 50 more trips to the vet and pet stores, please. Found it for a good price at www.petfooddirect.com, only thing is, they don't have the Meadow Feast formula and shipping is $15 for a 30lb bag of dog food. Think I may just give my buddies at the pet store a buzz and see if they'll order it for me. |

| I'm with you DDR I just looked at the ONE bag of TOTW I bought in the UK and it was on the recall UPC! Thankfully it was about 4/5ths full as I was just mixing a bit of it with our husky's Orijen but of course my slightly ill puppy went straight for it this morning (they get fed raw) so I don't know how much he got. Even one kibblet is more than I would have liked though. :/ Was just happy he wanted to eat even knowing that kibble and raw mixing was probably not the best for his tummy since he had been fed raw since he was weaned. |

| Nature's Domain from Costco, Diamond food, was not recalled, so if anyone feeds that, the food is ok. |
