HELP, FIRST TIME GSD OWNER.. WILL GET THE PUPPY IN 3DAYS by skurd3da1 on 24 April 2012 - 15:03 |
| I am about to pick him up in 3 days. He is about 6weeks old and I am not sure if he is going to be a super long hair or not. Please see link below. All help will be much appreciated. I am very curious on how he is going to turn out. BTW, papers says Atos Aus Agrigento as the father. I am currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan. |

| the link said the information was not available. I will say that 6 weeks is a bit too young to be picking him up. Wait a week.. two would be better. |

| Thanks Rass and Oregon... Should I wait a couple of more weeks? I have updated the upload and can you tell if he is going to be a long haired? I am not sure since I have not owned a GSD before and I am so curious. Thanks again... |

| 8 weeks (at least) is standard. I wouldn't want one before then, for sure. Good luck with your new pup! I am getting one soon, momma is due any day. I'm starting to get so excited! |

| Skurd, i'm extremely curious about the quality of your expected puppy and it's paper work, including it's pedigree. This is because no reputable or good or even a consciencious breed will release a 6weeks old puppy to you. At that age, the first shot vaccination had only been given a couple of hour ago, the puppy'll miss it's critical development stage of between 6-8 weeks withiout siblins or mother. Do more home work about you puppy true origin/pedigree. "Agrigento" , i know is too big a name to make the mistake of releasing a pup at 6weeks old. |

| Very cute puppy!!! It looks like probably will be a long coat... Just cause the father is Agrigento doesnt mean he is getting him from that kennel. Please wait until the puppy is atleast 8 weeks!!! Atos is a very nice male........... |

if this is a normal litter with a good mama its VERY important to wait until 8 weeks, BUT if the puppy is from a 1 puppy litter and the mama is finished with it than picking it up at 6 weeks is ok. puppies learn so much from each other and thier mama from 6 to 8 weeks. also they cope with stress easier and they are more stable on their food. my puppies get their first vaccination at 7.5 weeks and they go to their new homes at 8.5 weeks. they have also been wormed 3 times, and had complete physicals from my vet. make sure you know exactly what your pup is eating so you can continue this. you can switch food, but first let it become comfortable with its new home, than switch slowly. could be a long coat, beautiful pup. |

| Are you living on a military base? If so make sure the base accepts german shepherds. I do rescue and most bases here in the states frown on shepherds. Some don't even allow them at all. Good luck. Make sure you SOCIALIZE socialize socialize and not push to hard to learn all the rules in the beginning. We sometimes forget to let puppies be puppies. |

| Thanks K9Nelko, SitasMom and Bhaugh... Thanks for the advise.. I will wait until May 9 to pick him up... I have been bugging them since Sunday but they dont want to release the puppy... Good to know that the ideal age is 8weeks.. I am so happy to find this website for newbies like myself.. I already got the food that he is eating ready for him and all necessities.. Yes Bhaugh, we live onbase and there are no problems for german shepherds. Thanks! BTW, does long coat means he is going to look like the very long haired german shepherd? |

| That depends but I would lean toward yes. I had one long coat. His coat was pretty easy to care for with regular brushing. I prefer standard coats but his personality made up for the length of his hair |

by skurd3da1 on 01 May 2012 - 04:40 |
| yeah i know i said i'll wait till the 9th but the breeder said that the mom was finished with him and that it was ok to take him home. |
by Chaz Reinhold on 01 May 2012 - 04:48 |
| Imo, it isn't about the mom at this point, but the littermates. |
by skurd3da1 on 01 May 2012 - 04:52 |
| he's the only one in the litter. |
by skurd3da1 on 01 May 2012 - 04:53 |
| @chaz i know your just concerned about me taking him home early but we wouldnt take him home unless the breeder said it was ok. Plus we're all so very excited that we get to take him home. we've been waiting for him since his was still pregnant.. Isnt he so cute? My 3 yr. old said he was a teddy bear puppy.. LMAO! |
