| I'm wanting to get my pup DM tested soon. Being I haven't done this before, is there any specific vet to go to for this? Or can my vet draw the blood to send it off or what? And how much did you guys pay for the test? |

| You don't need blood. Go to the OFFA.ORG website and click on DM to order a cheek swab and the directions. http://www.offa.org/dnatesting/dm.html |

| You can get the same test at Animal Genetics for a lot less than OFA. I believe OFA is $65 per test and Animal Genetics is $45. If you have multiple dogs to test this can be a significant savings. Judy |

| I just sent one of my Malinois and one of my GSD's off last week to be tested. Cost is $65.00 per dog. Really simple to do. I ordered it from here: http://www.offa.org/dnatesting/dm.html After I ordered them, payment is required in advance for DM, it took 2 days for me to receive the items in the mail. Really simple to do, must wait at least 1 hour AFTER the dogs have been fed or had any water. Swab the cheek for 10 seconds...then transfer what you obtained off of the swab to a card they provide (have to fill in a circle on the card with DNA Material). Let it air dry 1 hour. Then place the card in the little brown envelope provided. Mail to the address enclosed (they give you preaddressed labels). Now I'm just waiting for the results:) OFA also gives you a html to track your order, it shows on mine that they received my samples 2 days after I sent them back:) |

| Thanks guys. And Judy, I'd rather go through OFA. Since they would be posted like Blitzen mentioned. I'm just doing this on one dog, a Shepherd pup. |

| i went through DDC for DM test and the instructions never said anything about waiting after eating of drinking or even letting it sit for an hour, so my question , is does this make a difference in the results? i am thinking on doing my boy through OFA to see if there is a difference , i would not think so, but i really dont know. i like that they have a database. |

I just wanted to share a conversation I had with my vet. He said the test needs to be done at the vet's office and submitted by them to be read. |

| Interesting. My test was sent directly to U of M and was a blood sample though I know OFA is a saliva sample but if this is being tagged on a pedigree shouldn't it *have* to be associated with a tatoo or microchip? Easy enough for an unscrupulous breeder to send in repeated samples from a clear dog without some sort of controls. The veterinarian actually took the AKC number as well as the microchip scan when my dog's sample was sent in. |

| Beaugsd are you speaking of the test by DDC? My OFA tests also were sent to the U of M directly - per the lables enclosed in the kit from OFA. No where on any of the forms from OFA does it state (for the saliva test) that the test needs to be done at the vet's office. It actually gives you step by step procedures to follow yourself. I still have my paperwork from OFA and double checked. OFA gives a choice between blood or saliva. I would assume (we all know what assuming does) that if you decide to do the blood test - that you would have to go to the vets office to have it drawn. Unscrupulous Breeders can also register a litter and say that whatever sire and dam produced it - when in many cases this is not the case = oops litters. Really hard to stop dishonest people:( When I was required to obtain a DNA Profile on my imported Malinois in order to obtain AKC Registration for him (he also has Raad van Beheer registration - NHSB registration #) - they also permitted me to do the test. I really think that most of the tests should require a vets signature - but then there are also unscrupulous vets:( |

| Just an update for those wondering how long the results take via OFA (for the saliva test for DM) - They received my samples on 03/29/2012 and posted the results yesterday (04-04-2012)on the private url link they gave me when I first ordered the tests. That was fast.....it'll be about 10 days before one will be able to see it by my dogs individual names on the OFA website. The actual results and accompanying certificates will come in the mail in about the same time. |
