So I have an eight week old puppy that has a "double tooth". Does anyone out there have any experience with this? Will the adult tooth grow in this way? It this a concern for any reason? Any info or experience with this would be appreciated.

Yes, I had a litter of 11 where 3 puppies had double incisors, it's called twinning where 2 teeth erupt from the same tooth bud. The difference was the twinning happened in the permanent teeth, not the puppy teeth. I suspect the permanent teeth will not show the double tooth, but if it does happen it shouldn't cause any issues.

I'm curious, my litter was a close breeding, is your pup tightly bred?

Yes, puppy is little tight bred (IMO). Puppy has same dog on the sire's side (grandfather) as on the mother's side as the father. Hope that just made sense??

Echo, Yes, he did..When his adult tooth came in the only difference between it and his baby tooth was the yellowish discoloration.

Thanks Ruger1, this was the information I was looking for!! What did your vet (or knowledgable source) say about the tooth? Is it more likely to break or chip?

Rik, have you seen puppy teeth that are double like this and then they grow in normal?

Wanted to update this thread incase anyone else out there had a similar issue. The baby tooth pictured fell out like normal and two normal teeth grew in the place of the double tooth. She now has a completely normal set of teeth.

Thanks for the update.  So many times we hear things then wonder what ever came of it.  Good news too.
