My friend was scooping up poop, and her glove fell out of her pocket. A young lab grabbed it, and started to play 'keep away'. Before she could corner him, the glove disappeared down his throat! Luckily, like most labs, he had an iron gut, and the glove passed without incident... I hope your pup is feeling better soon!

have your vet check for "INTUSSUSCEPTION" of the intestine. A puppy does not need to swallow anything for this to happen. i cannot stress this enough. kurt

Yes. Vomeisenhaus has a very very good point.

I have a hunch this pups intake is not getting past the STOMACH Diahrea ought to be also in the scheme of things and it is not... Really weird. Sorry but I would be at another vet yesterday.. AND not making you feel sought after, a long time Breeder of gsd and cocker spaniels , I am a firm believer in Crates...large wire crates for all pups and dogs that live in my territory whether inside or out.. Kennels outside are concrete and inside or even when I cannot watch...all dogs are kenneled when I am at work, gone, or cannot watch every little thing my pup or dog does..It is a rule for me. Also I watch every BM my dogs have from the day they are birthed till I sell, and all my dogs on my care I look at BM every day....Reason: A dogs waste is a clue as to how your dog is doing and when you see a difference you immediately revalue food, play places and toys or things your dog has in his m outh...from the grass and the dirt he eats to the pieces of shells, rocks and flowers he grabs from the flowerbeds as many bad fungi are learking in your flowerbeds under bark to the dead rotten fruit under your pear trees, and sometimes any one of us may not even think " OH no."...my pups or dog can eat that and we fail to pick up or know that , we are in charge of every breath and snort our dogs do...even till they are 15 yrs old... Please do not take offense....you are in the hands of many who care and are very knowledgeable here.. Let us know....hope the vet is aware of the paint chips and hope they are not stuck in the stomach.... Keep asking questions and get another vet if you have to... I feel for you , and your worries do worry me..I quite breeding 3 yrs ago because at my age I get almost in panic mode if something is wrong so I chose to hang up my world of new life. I keep my kids safe and they are all healthy because I have rules.. Even if others do not like my rules, they always have worked and that is all that matters. YR

Thanks guys they did every test they had to exempt led since his white blood cells were higher instead of lower. Today picked beast up from the hospital Doc said I can take him home he looked so much better as if it were another dog. Even tho much more energergetic,.still no apettite. Ive been trying chicken broth with success. Beast is not a picky eater but a gulper instead. So I tried green tripe by solid gold which I usually mix in their kibble and he ate about half a can. I called the clinic to ask if green tripe was ok since he hasn't ate in around 5 days they said it was ok. So right now im guessing the Doc was right about it being a infection.

* chicken broth with no success. Green tripe only thing he will nibble on. Ate a lil more green tripe this morning, when I take him to the yard he start eating grass and weeds tho which is really weird I stopped him since I know itll make him vommit.

Call your vet and ask him if he has any problem with you giving the dog some pepto-bismol for the upset stomach. If might help settle his tummy to keep the food down. Just please, check first with your vet, some medications can cause upset stomach.

cookie, hope all goes well. nan, did the puppy pass the rest of the man o.k. couldn't help myself, Rik

DO not use Pepto Bismol too much aspirin in it Use Imodium AD or Kaopectate You can pic up a PEctate bottle at Petsmart for DOGS>> GLAD he is eating...do not worry about too much TOO FASt>>go slow> LET HIM eat broth with rice and more broth and more broth...USE an electrolyte juice with no flavor if you do not have a dog one on hand. I keep electrolyte solution for pups and always keep a pribiotic also..in a week if he improves, start him on a probiotic for his gut.. then and only then ease into whole food...treat him like a recovering patient from surgery....Liquids with lots of broth with litte salt..but get the electrolyte solution down him someway .. You can also try Malt o meal or cream of wheat with broth kinda sloppy....They have iron and etc. Mix the electrolyte with his broth if you need to...use the both in the cream of wheat...or malt o meal ....it has folic and iron deluxe and is use for anemia patients so he falls in that catagory. yr

Lots of great info here. Just wanted to say thanks as who knows when/if it will come in handy in the future. A huge believer in crates. Big wire crates. I addition to keeping the dog safe from things when i cant supervise, but I also use them as a safe haven for a dog who has had too much of noisy rambunctious kids. As I train my dogs, I also train my kids and any kids that spend time in my house, that when the dog gOes to its crate it is saying "I've had enough please do not disturb me" it is their private space to go when they need their own time out. I no longer close the door to the crate but I feel it is totally needed for the dog to know it has a place to go where no one will bother it.

Ate a lil more green tripe this morning, when I take him to the yard he start eating grass and weeds tho which is really weird I stopped him since I know itll make him vommit. Wrong!!!! You are doing an entirely wrong thing - just opposite of what you were supposed to do. GSD eat grass to clean their digestive system. Their should eat it and vomit. It is absolutely normal. Your puppy was trying to cure himself, but his stupid owner didn't allow. When they eat grass, you just need to make sure it is clean, no chemicals or pesticides. Re: suspected lead poisoning. If it is the case, milk or yogurt is the 1st remedy here. It has been used to treat people for lead poisoning for centuries. |

Things to to when dog vomiting and having loose bowl; Fast him for 12 to 24 hours first by limiting water and food so his system gets cleaned up ,during this time he can have small ice only and give him enema every 2 to 4 hours to prevent dehydration ( 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt and 1/8 salt substituted to pint of boiled water cool down to body temp). You can use anti nausea kind for kids to control his vomiting . then cook some dark Vegetables and give him the broth only . You can use small honey and water to boost his energy up . if he holds it then give him rice and boiled chicken in small amount after that again rice chicken with yogurt then mixed it with his regular food then slowly put him on his normal food and lower amount of fat and things that you know gives him loose bowl for time being . Ask your vet for list of what to do in case he eats things he should not. and keep hy pro , sea salt , salt substitute, and activated charcoal at home and learn how to use them . hope this helps. PS ; this for dogs with no blockage in their stomach and have seen Vet

It is amazing how people fail to understand that vomiting is not a disease, but a natural yet perfectly healthy reaction of the organism trying to clean itself. All wild animals use different means (e.g. eating grass) to trigger vomiting - either regularly or when poisoned. Instead of fighting with vomits, you need to find the reason what causes it and get it fixed. Generally speaking, it is the main problem of the Western medicine that cures consequence rather than its cause.

Yes, let him eat the grass..it is yukky but they know it will make them better. Mother Nature knows. It is like saying...I need a rolaid ...but they cannot talk.. Yr Use Electrolyte solution ....buy it in the Baby section at the grocery...has what you have to get back in the dogs body...What Eurospherd posted is another way if you have sea salt handy. Keep sea salt for yourself also...throw the rest of Mortons in the garbage.

Thanks andyG you are right as far as a natural remedy with the grass. Only thing about that at this point the doctors main concern was that he stay hydrated and he keep the meds down. And by trowing up how would I maintain this pup to the docs requirements? Also many dogs eat grass as a habit so understand I only allowed my pup to east what was digested by the doc. The tought maybe something got stuck to his stomach was a concern, even tho nothing showed up in the xrays, and yes the grass would of helped in that situation. The docs 2 main causes of his sickness were infection and virus I dont know how effective grass woulda been but I just had to keep his oral meds down.

Happy to inform that Beast is 100% I am so happy....thanks to all of you. Note all the suggestions here were researched and then questioned to his care takers. This forum quite possibly saved his life thank you all very much. -Mark

Don't let him eat too much grass though, pups will eat too much of anything given half the chance, if a pup eats too much grass it ferments in the pups stomach which is dangerous according to the vet i go to, good luck

Thanks for the update. So glad he is doing better!! If you don't have a crate, I would agree with the suggestion to get one and keep him in it when you can't supervise him. Good luck in the future. Deb
