is an angular back on a gsd going to present issues later on ?
i think the straight back is more what the capt had.

Wow, you've asked a very vivid question here.  One in which has been discussed before.  But...
How would you define "angular"?  Maybe supply photos of dogs who you disagree on when it comes to the dog's angulation and then the dogs who you think are appropriate.
But remember, everyone has their own opinion and their own "eye" for structure.

I would defently say yes but not In All dogs te gsd has gotten more more joint and back issues not just HD/AD but also other problems In the lower back I know that other dogs have it to but angulation is not healthy and certainly Does not promote a dog that Can dó more versatile things like jumping
