I just contacted the AKC and they did confirm that a litter born in June 2010, to the dam and sire in question, has been registered with them. So plus on that. At least I know that the litter was registered. That is all they will tell me. They would not give me the litter number. They said it would be useless as the breeder would have the pin number that I need in order to register my girl anyway. Without the pin number the litter number has no use. So this is where I am. No reply from the breeder at this point either. I emailed on Friday.

Once your dog is registered, how long before they will show up here in the Pedigree database?
by aceofspades on 05 March 2012 - 22:53 |
you have to input your dog yourself on this website. This website has nothing to do with AKC registration. Over to the left and up a bit there is an option to register your dog to this website. Whether or not your dog is listed here is really unimportant. This website is useful mainly in researching the pedigree of a dog or checking a possible breeding match. I entered by girl here the day I got her, her entire pedigree is viewable because someone else has entered the other dogs. I have also entered my other male here but the branches on his family tree are non existent because no one else has entered their dogs in his pedigree.

Have you sent the breeder a certified letter, return receipt requesting the registration application for your puppy? I noticed you said "e-mails" and "phone calls," but perhaps if you send a certified letter to him that would work out much better than just e-mailing or phone calls. After all, it has been two years, the litter was registered, so what valid excuse could the breeder have for never sending the papers/not returning any means of contact? Don't forget to include a photocopy of your purchase agreement, and highlight the portion that states the dog was purchased with full registration rights from the AKC as well.

I typed up a letter today and will be sending it registered mail with signature so that I may view the reciept and signature online. With every post by someone else I can see how many mistakes I made with the purchase of this pup, some are almost embarassing to admit, I guess I just have faith that things like this wouldn't happen....I know now that any furture dog purchases will be carried out very differently and I will have a much better paper trail. This whole thing is really just a comedy of errors, probably on both the part of myself and the breeder. Urgh. I also emailed again to let him know I was sending a letter and stated the address it would be sent to and to reply and let me know if this was the correct address. I put a read reciept on the email as well so I should be able to tell when he reads it. Thanks for all the tips

Kinda weird though, that this breeder has not had any "accomplishments" since 2010? just things that make you go hmmmmm. Debby
by aceofspades on 08 March 2012 - 23:02 |
When you go in to the trophy room page there are a few years missing. Nothin in 2006 annd 2008 either. I do know he doesn't have the number of dogs that he once had, so that could be a part of why there isn't as much on the accomplishments page. He hasn't updated some stuff on the website since 2010, like the results page, but other parts have been updated. There have been two more litters posted to the page since mine. Both in 2011.

How long can I expect a registered letter to take? I mailed it on March 15, it crossed the border on March 17 and from there it had about 100 miles to go to get to the breeder. The tracking # on both Canada Post and USPS show it leaving Canada on March 17 but nothing since then. I paid for the ability to track it online and to be able to view the signature online once it is delivered. Do you think it is safe to say the recipient has refused it or is ignoring it? Or because tracking has just dropped off at the border do you think it maybe got lost??? I don't know how often they scan registered mail once it is in the US, I know in Canada it gets scanned pretty much every time it gets touched by a person.

I **THINK** had the recipient refused the letter, it would show online...Also, should it have arrived to an address where the recipient no longer lives, it would be my guess it would be forwarded to them at their new registered address. Yes, mail gets lost, but more likely than not, it was held up at the border. Is there a number you can call and give them a confirmation number to see if THEY can track the letter? These kind of things don't just "disappear" and SOMEONE will know where it is. GOOD LUCK!

I went to my PO today, I've known the lady there for years. She gave me the number to call and said I "should" be able to track every move and it would show any attempts at delivery and that it should definitely be there by now. Oh and that if it was refused or forwarded i would also be able to see that By the time I got home tonight it was too late to call but I will call in the morning. It is showing that it went through the international sort facility and because it is just a letter sized envelope the PO lady said there would be no reason for it to be held up. It literally was an envelope with 4 sheets of paper folded in half.....maybe even three I can't remember. I just wasn't sure how it worked once it passed the border but she said it should be scanned at every human touch pretty much and that I should basically be able to see it's every move. So I am now thinking it must have gotten lost. Just my freaking luck. Super annoying. I just want my papers.

Just wanted to update. The letter is still missing and a claim has been filed with Canada Post....but I recieved an email from the breeder today who said that he did send the reg papers back in 2010 and that he does not know why I did not recieve them. He also said that a duplicate package is enroute to him from the AKC and will be mailed to me ASAP. Thanks for all the great advice here. I will update you all when i recieve the package.

AWESOME! Wish I could give you a big hug, AceofSpades, that is wonderful news! Now, if you don't get those damn papers, at least you'll know his email works and if he pulls the disappearing act again you know what to do to get his attention :) I'm proud of you, please let us know if you get those stinkin' papers!

Hallelujah and pass the Ink and stamps..Hope he is not kidding and is serious..I looked him up, the breeder , saw pic of him I believe in a trial and I never heard of him...Of course, that means nothing as I am not in the LOOP ... BUT MY PARTNER is still in USA and I read the magazine every so often..SO just thank goodness for the DB breed people who have helped and given you encouragement as this is not the way it SHOULD HAVE BEEN>>>AND it is not all your deal...my next question is..the BREEDER HAS A LOG OF AKC responsibility to log in when sold, when registered etc..HOW COME HE has not been in touch with you and ask you ....WHAT day did you register your dog and what is his/her name and where are the papers..HE can log in online and update his account..WHY has NE not looked YOU up and done what a BREEDER is suppose to do. MY file drawer is loaded with my logs of what dogs and litter I have done and I update and check also to make sure no one is using my dogs numbers erronously.. GOOD LUCK...HOPE your mail box sings a HAPPY SONG real soon..LET us know. YR

YR, my posts do that too when I post from my phone. That is interesting about the log, I had no idea. I really hope the papers show up soon. Just looking for closure. I do believe in the good in people and I do believe that this was just a freak incident, clearly lack of due diligence in consistently pursuing the matter on my part, and apparently, after learning about the log book, a bit more than i thought on his part as well. He said he did send then in Dec 2010 and I can't very well call BS as I am sitting here with a registered letter to HIM that has virtually disappeared into thin air. The only diffrence is i can see that i sent the letter via registered mail as opposed to regular letterpost, I am able to tell that it has not arrived and has just kind of disappeared. I did remember recently that in my initial contact to him when inquiring about purchasing a puppy, that he was slow to reply and had said that my emails were going into his spam folder....perhaps they still are? Who knows. Perhaps one of the kind people who PM'd me mentioning that they know the breeder and would see what they could do, put a bug in his ear that I was trying to contact him and that is why he checked and got back to me. maybe he doesn't check his emails often when he doesn't have a current or upcoming litter. I can only guess. I am just thankful that i finally heard back from him and from the sound of things I should have everything I need within a few weeks. So again....THANK YOU to everyone who helped me and pointed me in the right direction and to anyone who may have tipped off the breeder that I was unsucessfully trying to contact him. I will absolutely shout it from the rooftops when I get that happy envelope in the mail...I can't wait. you will all hear about it!!

If the sire was an import it needed his DNA on file before the litter he sired was born.
