Do they seriously only hold them 3 days? Pick-up date was 2/21 & euth date is 2/23....that seems unreasonable. I agree, they look purebred. I would certainly rescue them for placement before I'd let them get euth'd!!! But I'm too far away.....anyone out there care to step up for these sweeties? I'm gonna call our local rescue, see what can be done....any GSD rescues in NC? GEEZ, there's not a lot of time! jackie harris

The pics arn't very good, but it looks like they have multi-colored noses, not all black. Zep--

Adopt, Rescue or euthanasia date 2/23. On German Shepherd Forum.com it would seems dogs do get pulled frequently by rescues from this shelter-hopefully the pups have been listed and the ball started to roll

Unfortunately Gaston is a very high kill shelter, and they do really only have 3 days. They are a gas chamber shelter as well and unfortunately, also have a high rate of illness. They do not vet before they adopt out. I would, but I'm at the max my fiance and finances will allow. Melissa

Gawd, can't they hold puppies a little longer. It really turns me off to see things like an euthanasia date or "this dog only has a few days left". True, even necessary, but can't they find a little kinder way to say it. One of the area rescues does that too - better hurry if you want this one, he only has 24 hours left. I sure hope someone is able to pull these little puppies.

OMG that makes it worse. They gas them?
by melba on 22 February 2012 - 21:57 |
Yes they do. If you look at the cage # it says Foste, so I'd like to say they have already made it to Foster, but someone should check to make sure. NC is horrible about the Gas Chamber and Heart stick. Most generally don't use IV euthanasia because Counties have low budgets here and it doesn't take a trained vet to administer gas. You just have to take a short class and any joe blow can do it. Makes me sick. Melissa

That is just terrible. You are right, one doesn't need to be a brain surgeon to be trained to humanely euthanize an animal. I have to think that there should be enough licensed vets in that area who could dedicate a few hours a week for some pro bono work to see that these unwanted creatures don't have to suffer a gas chamber.

I just got back from rehab.....did anybody call that place? I will call in the AM to check & see if these pups are going to foster, or if they can give them a day or 2 more if they get a donation to feed them? I don't care if their noses are chartreuse, they deserve more than 3 days! jackie harris

I called & left a message, that was the only option available.....no call back as yet. Poor babies. It does look like they're in foster care, hope that gives them a couple days reprieve. Adoption fees are $90/dog, X 3 puppies; which I don't have right now, after everything we went through with Kali...even IF I were close enough......jackie harris

Melba-any word? jackie harris

| I've called multiple times and no answer. Is there never anyone there? Or are they avoiding answering the phone? I don't know. On their website, it explains that when FOSTE appears next to a dogs' name, they have been pulled by an independant 501c3 group, which makes me feel a tad better... just wish someone could confirm. | I called yesterday & left a message, never got a return call from them.I saw the foster designation, too. I'm hoping that means the pups are safe, at least for now. Sucks they don't answer their phone, kind of stacks the odds against the animals they hold, doesn't it? jackie harris |

To the people that are close, why not just show up?
by melba on 24 February 2012 - 18:03 |
I'm not that close and unfortunately wouldn't be able to make it until Monday/Tuesday. Melissa
