I have never met Hans in person, but I  knew his story long before I ever came to the PDB.  He wa a new immigrant to the U.S., living in his car with his dogs in the middle of winter. Tina Barber, the breed founder of the Shiloh Shepherds, someone else whose name has frequently been dragged through the mud on this board, found out about him, and took him in and gave him a job. He worked for her for several years, until he found his feet in this new country. His first SAR dog was a Shiloh of her breeding.

So much for those of you who think Shilohs are good-for-nothing couch potatoes! The GSDs in their lineage were doing SAR long before Tina outcrossed to a dog that was part Malemute, and broke with the AKC to start the Shiloh as its own breed.

After my husband died in 2004, and I started looking for a dog to train as a Hearing Ear dog, I was shocked by what had happened to the AKC and CKC German Shepherds during the 13 years I'd had my dog, Tasha (the one in my sig pic.) I did a search for 'old fashioned' German Shepherds, and this led me to Tina's webpage. However, her breed was not yet recognized (still isn't for that matter) and I wanted a dog I could take in dog shows, or at least in performance events.  (Canada did not yet have performance numbers for non-pedigreed dogs.) I told Tina what I was looking for, and GUESS WHO SHE REFERRED ME TO?

The cost of Hans's dogs was way, way beyond what I could afford at the time, as I wasn't working, and I never thought to ask him for charity.  Also, having a dog or puppy shipped from Arizona just didn't seem like a good idea. I wanted to be able to meet the dog in person before I made a decision about buying him/her. Then, Ranger came into my life as a rescue, and I began training him instead.  He turned out to be the perfect dog for my needs, and I lost contact with Hans until I joined the PDB, and realized he must have been the person Tina referred me to back in 2005.

And for you Slamdunc to to say that I do everything with ulterior motive of promoting myself and making money!? How do you know that? From talking to me one afternoon? Slam you have no clue who I am and why I do things. And what is your ulterior motive to be here? Should I question that?

Hans, let me answer your question with your own statement:
 3. And yes to promote my business so that I can survive and I can afford to do the first two. After all if I will not promote myself who will? You sure as hell are not!

You are correct.  Actually, I have referred people to you in the past.  Obviously, I  would never do that again.  I have no ulterior motives here, as I have stated before I do not sell dogs or breed dogs.  My only concern in all of this was to help Chrissy and Kaiser, when it appeared you wouldn't.  I have done my part in that, including going beyond posting on the PDB to assist her.  Refunding her money was the very LEAST you should have done.  I really wish you would stop flattering yourself by saying I am jealous of you, that is comical.  The "poor, poor me" stuff is really getting old.  I'm done with this and hoping Kaiser does well with his surgery next week.  Kaiser won't be "perfect" but hopefully his pain from his genetic conditions will be diminished enough that he can live a good life thanks to Chrissy.

Hans, people don't like the way you handled the situation. While I have personally stuck my own neck out to state that you and others should not be casually vilified or destroyed at the hands of God only knows who on an internet forum, I really do not understand what you have to gain by returning to the argument. I doubt seriously anything you say is going to change anyone's opinion at this point and you stand only to lose.

I do hope Aakay and her sidekicks, seeing as they feel such need to support the producer, will also support what he has produced.

I'm sure you have all seen the vets address on the 'Look at these hips" thread.  Instead of just opening your mouth and crying foul repeatedly, please open your hearts and your wallets.

In other words, put your money where your mouth is.  Maybe then, people will take you half seriously.

It isn't over yet in terms of cost to fix this pup.  Every little bit helps!

@ ladyfrost - on the contrary, we clearly live in a society where perception is reality. People believe what they 're fed, regardless of truth, from the latest infomercials to electing the most powerful man in the world.

Carlin....yeah, they are called cattle....anyone who can think for themselves are usually the ones who go against the grain... :) But thats a whole new topic and a thread and completely un winning argument due to the fact that no one will admit that they fall into first category...

Clarification: this is referring to society and perception (for those who are quick to jump in before looking)..LOL...

Hans, I don't think you understand what got everyone upset.  It was the overbite.  For you to say you went beyond your contract, I think most of us feel that you had already voided the contract for selling her a puppy with such a serious defect at the time of sale.  Known or unknown, by your own admission it was a mistake, should not of happened, but yet it appeared to so many of us that you were still holding her to her end of the contract while you had sold her a dog that in our eyes failed horribly to meet the minimum standards of your contractual obligation.

You and your partners are the experts.  Part of the puppy price reflects your experience and expertise and is at minimum assumed in the contract.  The bare minimum  expectation of that expertise is that a puppy will be shipped without any known, or should be known faults.

If it was just hips that would be different.  You would not, nor could you be expected to know about that at that age.

And most of us feel that the contract is the minimum of what is expected from both parties and not the maximum.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time.  I think you are honestly perplexed by the outrage over this, and I think at least temporally it's safe to assume it has hurt your business.  How much of a  long term effect is really up to you.

I think it's crazy how everyone is coming down so hard on Hans's "supporters" when just a short time ago MAJORITY of you were standing next to them. I believe life has a way of working things out, good vs. evil, right vs wrong ect. Not saying anyone is right or wrong or evil but eventually all things come to light & to see the light is awesome but to chastise those that havn't yet just isn't cool. If they don't listen the first time let people learn there leasons the hard way........ (owner edit: sorry about the person jab, took it out because it was uncalled for ;)

Prager, I loved your You Tube video you put up, it was awesome!

don't worry what other's might say, Charlie, my Belgian Mali is my service dog & she loves her work!

She paces at the door if I walk out without her ( only do that on a good day )

My Charlie is 26.5" tall and she is great for my balance, she is tuned into me and even helps with out being asked.

Charlie also brings my cell phone to me if I can't here it ( ok yes she doesnt like it when on vibrate )

She follows me everywhere I go in the house all on her own accord, so far from being a slave.

Charlie also goes to school with me and she helps the Veteran's at the VA center in school, she places her head in their lap, then looks up at them as if she knows they need a hug. Really she
is stealing a pat or two on the head.

We are working with our school to get a retired MWD so a dog can be with the Veteran's during office hours.

Most service dogs are a good fit, but I have seen unhappy camper's as well.
