| Wow.. I feel like a dumb dumb.. I did not know this test was available. Is it rather new to be able to test for DM? I am ordering tests from OFA right now! |

| Amysavesjack: that is one reason why we are spreading the word; of course there will be some people who did not know the test(s) are readily available and pretty reasonable at that. Best of luck with your testing; wished other countries would test also; probably will take more time and availability. Nan |

| It looks like Zamp's sire, Quenn, is also clear although he hasn't been tested per se as far as I know. I don't think the Germans are using the test yet. In addition to Zamp, an entire litter of 5 out of Quenn tested normal out of a normal dam. Also Plant's dog, Waiko, has been tested as normal. |

| Connie, Ajax is beautiful! Nice boy! Just curious, why was he Kkl2? Dont see many V rated dogs go Kkl2? Leoetta, I looked up your boy yesterday after someone else mentioned him. Nice looking dog too! Looks like he has done very well on the SchH field too! What is the Universal Youth Sieger? I have never heard of that term before... Is it just like the regular Universal Sieger but for young dogs? or? Thanks for sharing everyone! |

| Is the OFA test the one you guys are using? I see where to order it but how does it work? Blood or cheek swab or....? |
by GSD2727 on 11 January 2012 - 15:50 |
| VKGSDs, I used Animal Genetics for my female's test. It was a little cheaper and really quick turn around. I believe there are three places offering tests... OFA, Animal Genetics and DDC (I think??? someone with one of my puppies used this one I believe). It is just a cheek swab. |
by Blitzen on 11 January 2012 - 15:52 |
| OFA will mail you a kit containig a cheek swab and directions. Basically, you don't allow the dog to have anything to eat or drink for a set time, and then carefully swab the inside of the cheek and transfer the cells to a card included with the test. Mail the card to OFA and in about 2, 3 weeks, you will get the results. I've not used any of the other labs, but I imagine their procedure is the same. It's easy to do. |

| Thanks guys, I'll try this with my young dog if my next paycheck allows! Is there an age minimum? |
by Blitzen on 11 January 2012 - 16:49 |
Minimum age is 4 weeks for the DNA test. |
