Thanks Blitzen for your comments.. I am hopeful that dwarf shepherd owners can get the help they need here. It is a lonely journey otherwise. Few vets know about this - really know. So we are on our own in many ways. I will post Tebow's supplement and diet protocol tomorrow to try to help with what I have gathered from the reliable sources I have found. Tig has been tremendously supportive. I am grateful

There is a photo and pedigree of the dwarf I had here on the Ped. Database. He was a week short of 14 years when we had him put to sleep. His name is Hazelgrove Boss

now do both dogs have to carrier the dwarf gene to produce dwarf pups? also is there test to test if my dog is a carrier for this? i ask as nemo is very cute and comes from Lasso and my boy is a Lasso great grand son, so i am a bit concern as i would not want to produce dwarf pups. any information would be great, as i am a very respondable breeder , i want to improve this breed not make it worst. Thanks

Unfortunately, I am a GSD lover who knows nothing about this little Tebow fellow. I have no history on him, but I have learned that yes, both parents have to carry the gene and the only testing available to my knowledge is in Sweden or somewhere pretty far from me...lol. If you look on the thread "Tebow" - that is my dwarf and they got into a lot of that detail on that site. I will look too to be sure it is on there but one of the posters there works at the Institute that cares for all the dwarfs in that country. I wish I had pedigree history on Tebow, but Mr. Nemo is guiding us (well Beth is) and helping us get started on this adventure... learning to love it, not be afraid of it. Thanks for the post.

I think she may work there. but here's her info and email: Tanja Stoetman your vet can always contact Dr. H.S. Kooistra from the University Utrecht (Veterinarian department) If you want I can give you the number or Email. mail me first at Saartje@stoethoeve.nl Good luck with this.. |

Just posted pics on "TEBOW" showing hair loss/growth in case you are interested. I am thinking that "TEBOW" and "DWARF GSD" should be combined ... more information on Tebow's thread, but Dwarf GSD is easier to find for those looking for that topic... Just a thought.lol...

Update on Tiny Tim Tebow... He is really doing well.. still has lots of hair... some of the fuzzy stuff... well, it is all fuzzy stuff pretty much, but some of the original fuzz came out and new fuzz came in.. the new fuzz is black and within weeks, turns grey.. like an old man. He has a huge patch of "big dog hair" on his chest - like a chestplate.. and it is 2+ inches long... this huge patch on that little chest is so funny, as it nearly drags on the ground when he prances.. yes, prances across the yard. He still gets .3 thyroxene twice a day with CoQ10, Fish Oil, Glucosomine/Chondroitin. He gets raw beef heart 2x week, chicken 3x week, and beef of some sort the rest of the time. He gets chicken paws regularly, beef liver and chicken liver as his treats for training. He also gets an egg twice a week, shell and all.. loves trying to open it.. a fun outside time. He was on Longevity from Springtime for quite a while but it has become cost prohibitive for me tocontinue that, but he doesn't show any ill effects. We do give him 1 cup of Taste of the Wild every morning and a general high grade dog vit/min suppletment. We bathe him with a pet dispensed shampoo which has proven to work wonders.. no skin eruptions since he first arrived. She recommended twice a week.. I am at once ever 10-14 days at most...unless he has decided to dig in the mud and is covered.. he loves to do that.. then he gets a bath no matter what day it is! I am convinced that the nightly brushing is an advantage for him. It keeps the baby fuzz from clumping around the skin.. when it is moved outof the way by stretching it out straight... the black hair pops through -sometimes I can see black dots on his skin. It is a nice TV activity and he seems to enjoy it. He HATES to get his nails cut - his feet are so big but he never has allowed anyone to handle his feet - even when he is being brushed.. Now I can finally touch his legs, but not the feet. Nail trimming is interesting.. Tebow has that big dog attitude and has put our GSDx (Willow) on the ground several times. She is 85 pounds, he is 33. But he has an attitude if she doesn't do what he thinks she should. But they play well together and are great yard mates now that the weather is nice... until nap time, then he wants in the house .. then back out only sporatically... One issue I am having is his soiling in the house.. he seems to have an issue - groans when he poops.. but eventually gets the job done.. but prefers inside rather than in the yard. I blocked off his favorite spot and so far we are ok for the last few days.. but we'll see. Otherwise, he is doing great.. happy and healthy- relatively speaking.. hasn't changed in looks much, but he's doing well. By the way, ignore dates on photos I don't have that figured out yet.

Don't have a lot of time right now, so I may have missed it. Make sure your vet does separate pituitary and thyroid panels. Not just a thyroid or CBC. I have a dwarf that is a true pituitary dwarf... Kane... http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=721886 He is a riot and I just love him to death. My 18 month old thinks he's his little baby and lets Kane beat up on him all the time. And right now thaey are out in the baby pool I can see out the door, but I want to get out there with my camera. Just came in to see if the Sieger Show results were up. I'll read everything later. A.P.
