| Hi What does HD A-3 mean ??? I have been looking at the hips scoring schemes @ http://www.tierspital.uzh.ch/Abteilungen/Kleintiere/BildgDiagnostik/Fachgebiete/Dysplasiekommission2/links/Scoring_radiographs_for_canine_hip_dysplasia_The_big_three_organisations_n_the_world.pdf however I am still not quite sure whether this is a good hip and elbow score? |

| Noch Zugelasen = OFA fair , some people will tell you otherwise,but in general you may equalled the first 3 ratings...A1 = normal OFA Excellent.....A2 = Fast normal OFA good.....A3 = nz OFA fair.....Still, you should guide yourself by the ZW , which is the combined genetic rating of what all dogs in that particular dogs' pedigree is producing. Good luck>> Umm... I don't think so... A1 hips can be OFA fair or they can be OFA excellent. Fast Normal is the OFA borderline HD. Noch Zugelassen is MILD dysplasia. | I'm with Laurie on this one. Excellent-Fair OFA ratings are variations of NORMAL/passing hips. a-fast normal is loosely translated to "nearly normal," and would usually fall somewhere between fair and borderline per OFA, a hip that OFA would recommend re-evaluating at a later point. |

| You cannot always go by the chart. I have known and heard of many dogs who were 'a' fast normal and still OFA good even even excellent. Also heard of several 'a' nz dogs who passed OFA easily. A few years ago on one of the larger email lists there was a respected breeder who posted about their experience bringing in 'a' nz dogs and how almost all of them passed OFA. If you were thinking about buying or breed to an 'a' nz dog - I would want a 2nd opinion of course... but not all are "bad". Same with elbows. I know of a dog who has 'a3' elbows yet several different vets see absolutely nothing wrong with the xrays. The father (a German import) of one of my old females was 'a' fast normal and then went OFA good at over 5 years of age. That was after 5 years of hard work on the SchH field. Definately not dysplastic or borderline. Obviously I want to see 'a' normals as much as possible, but I just dont think it is as simple as the chart leads you to believe. |

| If I may, everyone is correct, there are 2 things, what it is AND the opinion of the vet-radiologist that will read the X-rays .....YES, you may have normal in Germany and later on when you do OFA they might say is "whatever they think". I was trying to show the ratings meanings,and regardless, The Zuchwert is BY FAR the best breeding tool when checking for hips. |

I had always heard that NZ or Noch Z was equivalent to our fair. I don't think it is mild. Or if it is mild, GErman mild is our fair?? Man there are a lot of NZ that have been bred in the past, not so sure about current dogs but lots and lots in the past, you can open up any pedigree and see NZ usually more than once in a 3 generation pedigree. | IF YOU SEND IN TO OFA WHEN A DOG IS 18 TO 20 MONTHS OLD AND THEY SEND BACK ALL IS GOOD BUT A MILD DYSPLASIA ON THE RIGHT HIP. WOULD YOU GIVE UP AT THIS POINT OR RESEND AT 2 YEARS WHEN THEY CAN CERTIFY. DO YOU THINK IT WILL OR CAN BE DIFFERENT. i HAVE SEEN WHERE A FAIR HAS CHANGED TO A GOOD OR EVEN BETTER!! |

| i am with jdiaz on this one, i too believe the Zw is very important. and would breed to an A2 with a good Zw. |

Canine hips sysplacia and other othopedic disorders a(3) is actually MILD per the OFA.......  |
