Not sure I under stand what is wrong with a rescue taking pregnant dogs?

Not sure what you mean, did the rescue organisation purchase the dog or did 2 individuals purchase a dog and sell the puppies?
by georgina on 01 November 2011 - 08:28 |
The Bitch was purchased in the name of the rescue and the puppies were sold in the name of the rescue

To your original question is this rescue? I don't know that there is enough information to answer that. Was Lilly purchased to save her from drug dealers (yes that's rescue) were the funds raised from the sale (adoption fee?) of the puppies put back into the rescue's funds to offset the cost of purchasing her and the costs of whelping and raising her pups, then I guess yes, that too could be the pragmatic and sensible side of rescue. There is an argument that the cost of something that is set too low is subsequently not valued by the purchaser. I tend to subscribe to that view. Did the rescue make a shedload of money - doubtful! Did they intentionally purchase the dog to make a shedload of money? Risky, she may have only had a very small litter or have lost them all, especially if she came from a bad situation.

It is not unsusal for a rescue to buy a dog to get it out of harms way rather it is pregnant or not. I have bought puppies and dogs from puppy mill auctions to save them from a life of living in a mill and producing even more puppies. Some of the females I have gotten were pregnant and yes I whelp the litter and place all of them for a reasonable adoption fee. In fact I pulled a very pregnant Chihuahua yesterday. Based on x-rays taken yesterday she is due in about 10 days - 2 weeks and there should be between 3 - 5 puppies. As for the fees they go to cover expenses not only for that particular dog but others who's expenses far out weigh any fee you could expect. I have put well over $1,000 into medical for a dog only to place it for a $200 adoption fee.

Oh dear, I have herd some very bad things about this rescue and very unhappy adopters, there like back street breaders, when i read some of the stories i went to another rescue and have now a beautiful big black girl so I am a happy man

Alex as an adopter did they give you access to the records of other adopties? I really don't think so! so your "story" is flawed I'm glad you are a happy man i suggest you concentrate on that as you are very badly informed regarding rescue practices, i don't know of any rescue that actively breeds gsd's, back yard or otherwise Enjoy your dog!

premier, i did reserch looking for a dog and I joined a few forums and there was some unhappy people who purchased a dog from there, one lady said after one month her dog bit her child, it was full of worms and she said they did spend a lot of money on it, sadley she had it pts as it was very snappy

The problem is that these rescues have some issues between them selves that seems to spill over into slagging off and lies on both sides A child was betten how terrible, do you really know the full story or is it " i read this somewhere" it's a hard job these rescues do, and I'm sure some mistakes do happen. If you have a dog out of rescue, you don't know the dog or it's background and a certain amount of responsibility has to sit with the person taking on the dog. altho worming should have been done as soon as the dog came into care. I have no issue with a rescue homing puppies that have been born in rescue and providing the money raised is used for the rescue I really cant see any rational person having a problem with this providing things are done properly I've personally had dealing with several rescues including UK GSR, Shepherd rescue and some mixed breed rescues Tom

You guys all need to put your egos to bed, concentrate on rescue/rehoming, and get a life........off line, PRICELESS!!!
by leiasmum on 04 November 2011 - 15:16 |
I take it you all have proof of this ? And this is not just idle gossip exagerrated by disgruntled ex-volunteers??? The lady who states about the lady with a child who got bitten, has the wrong gsd rescue. Please get your facts and both sides of the story folks before slating rescues who work tirelessly to save this wonderful breed. Otherwise, all you are doing is indirectly harming the dogs you all claim to love.
