Our 15th annual herding trial took place last Saturday. We had 5
competitors, each with a German Shepherd Dog. Everyone qualified. The judge
was SV judge Manfred Voigt from Germany.

We got lucky that day with the weather, relatively speaking. It remained dry
in the morning, it rained during the lunch break but we fit all 60 or 70
spectators in the barn for lunch. It stopped raining just before we
continued and then rained again after the last run.

The cooler weather made it at first more difficult, the sheep were a little
unruly. I received a V score for Elka aka "Gerda" with 90 points. It is
personally satisfying to manage getting  the highest rating possible
("Excellent") after a short seven-months-long training season. Kristin
followed with the second run. She managed to implement most if not all
improvements in training she accomplished throughout the year and received
her well deserved high score of 94 points. Kathy and Elexa followed. Kathy's
improvement was noted by the judge who evaluated her run two years ago with
just 73 points. Her improvements were the greatest of all competitors and
she received a score only two points behind Kristin (92 points). After lunch
Pat ran her Ingo for the first time (for both of them) after less than a
year of training. While her and her dog's inexperience caused understandably
some difficulties she managed to qualify safely with 65 points. The last run
of the day was Alison with Myrddin, the same Myrddin who thought herding
spells hurting just a year ago. There was no resemblance of that dog from
just a year ago. This team showed a solid and calm performance and received
a "Good" with 77 points. I believe every competitor was satisfied with her
or his score, something that rarely happens in a trial.

1. Place Kristin Siarkowicz with Lara vom Dolderbrunnen, 94 points, V

2. Place Kathy DiStaso with Elexa vom Quasliner Moor, 92 points, V

3. Place Alison Bentley with Myrddin vom Sukee, 77 points, G (new)

4. Place Pat Bonino with Ingo von de Sleghte Bruute, 65 points, B (new)

For title only: Ulf Kintzel with Elka vom Quasliner Moor, owner Daphne
Carey, 90 points, V (new)
