It always depends how you raise and train the dogs. I prefer the lines after Ursus Batu or recently Tyson Köttersbusch.

i agree however there must be some show lines that are known to produce top temper and drive in puppies or dogs more then others.

I own a 4 month old Tyson-son which is very dominant and shows a lot of drive.
My older dog is a 6 year old Orbit Hühnegrab-son (Ursus Batu) which has lots of drive, 15 times IPO3, RH2 (national championships).
They both had good play drive and were very open, when I got them. The rest depends on yourself!

I have like what I have seen from Heidi Theis of Thieshoff German Shepherds. She raises and titles all her dogs from her own breedings.
I have never owned one of her dogs (as I have working lines dogs) but I have been impressed with what she has. Cudos to her for raising and titling dogs from her own breedings!

Thank you so much for your nice words Jyl.  I am honored when working line owners/breeders can appreciate my hard efforts at maintaining working ability in the show line shepherd.  I love my dogs and I try to do right by the breed by being picky of the dogs I use for breeding. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears have gone into 23 years of hard work but I love it.  Anyhow, I can truly appreciate when people notice, so, thank you, you have no idea what it means to me.  :-)

NO problem Heidi. I give credit when credit is due...lol. You have very nice dogs and do right by them. I wish there were more showline breeders doing what you do and breeding dogs like you have. If this was always the case, maybe just maybe there would not be the working line / show line split like there is.

I wish so too Jyl.  :-(

I am happy that I started with an old show/working line dog with a working police dog as the father (when the lines were not so split), very good strength for a female in working, strong prey that drove you insane but I was 17 at the time so I could keep up with her (lol), G structure...  she made me always crave a fast, fun, happy worker and she also made me want slightly better structure.  I think I am different because I honestly know what to look for in drive for puppies because I started with a crazy, good one!  I've seen others pick puppies and tell me they are "so high drive", I take one look at them and realize they truly are not high drive at all, they are just hectic energy which is a growing problem in the showlines.  They have hectic energy but no prey drive, there's a HUGE difference and people mistake this hectic energy for "high drive" in the show lines all of the time.  And what can you do with hectic energy?  Nothing, it does not a title make. I do not profess to be an expert by any means, I just know what I've learned over the years and it seems only the working people can understand when I talk about this difference.

I totally agree with what you say about the drives in the showlines. I completely understand too.
